DDG 115 SHENYANG
« on: August 13, 2015, 04:07:47 PM »
Started this today at dinner-time. As you can see, it's another bargain from Whitby. Not much brass in the kit and what there is replaces some of the plastic, no railings so some generic stuff will be needed.
I've just realized that Tsesarevich took nearly five months to build, HMS Montrose took five weeks so there's a message somewhere.
Here's progress to date.
Haddock.

All you have to do is stick some bits together and slosh some paint on after all, how hard can it be.
Do you detect a note of irony here I wonder?

Well that's the water-lining complete, some sub-assemblies carefully cemented together and brass parts added where appropriate. All parts have been filled and sanded where needed. Can't make up my mind whether to replace the vertical ladders with brass items.

Brass ladders would look better, the injected ones look a bit lost.

I was hoping you would say they look fine as is but I have to agree so its off to work with a scalpel and chisel, there's lots of 'em.

Sorry if I have given you more work, but I belive that you are a perfectionist and really wouldn`t accept such a standard. After all, it`s only a piece of plastic!

Good progress. Pic one has every-thing cemented in place, pic two has the main sub-assys in place but not fixed. I've "re-engineered" the fore-deck a bit to accept chain and all the vertical ladders will have to be removed and replaced with brass items. Soon be time to start  applying some paint.
