Hi Kiteman the size of the base is 17 x 7 inches and the model scale is 1/400.

Just to upset Dave I did research it and the scale is "T" gauge that is 1/440 and is very very small and very very very expensive - so keeping with the club motto "its got to be cheap" I made my own.

I have never come across that one, the smallest I know of is "Z" gauge. You learn something every day.

Here are some odd Japanese scales for ya...including "T":

Japanese

While there are Japanese model railway manufacturers that export their products to other parts of the world and follow the scale standards of the export destinations, in Japan there are several domestic scales that are popular in the country but virtually unknown elsewhere. International NEM and NMRA scales are also used by some Japanese modellers. The main reason for the domestic scales different from international standards is the smaller prototype loading gauge and unusual gauges of Japanese railways: 600 mm (1 ft 11 5⁄8 in), 762 mm (2 ft 6 in) and 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) (International standard gauge of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) is also used).

Scale                      Ratio                     Gauge                             Notes
T                             1:450/1:480        3 mm (0.118 in)              Launched at 2006 Tokyo Toy Show by Eishindo Co.
ZZ                           1:300                 4.8 mm (0.189 in)            Introduced 2005 by Bandai
ZJ                            1:220                 6.5 mm (0.256 in)
N                             1:150/1:160       9 mm (0.354 in)              The most popular scale in Japan. For the models of Shinkansen highspeed
trains with a larger loading scale, the international N scale standard ratio
                                                                                              of 1:160 is commonly used.
TT9                          1:120                 9 mm (0.354 in)              Used also in New Zealand.
HOn2½                    1:80                   9 mm (0.354 in)               Used for 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge.
HOj (12mm)             1:87                  12 mm (0.472 in)              Correct for 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) Japanese narrow gauge.
13mm                      1:80                  13 mm (0.512 in)              Correct for 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) Japanese narrow gauge.
HO or #16                1:80/1:87         16.5 mm (0.65 in)             Used for ready-to-run models. For the models of Shinkansen high speed
trains with a larger loading scale, the international H0 scale Standard
                                                                                              ratio1:87 is commonly used.
Sn3½                      1:64                  16.5 mm (0.65 in)            Used for ready-to-run models.
-                             1:50                  20.5 mm (0.807 in)            Static models mostly.
OJ                           1:45                  24 mm (0.945 in)             Correct for 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) Japanese narrow gauge.
O                            1:45(1:40-1:42) 32 mm (1.26 in) 1:40-1:42                 used about 1930s.
35mm                     1:30                  35 mm (1.378 in)              Used for 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) Japanese narrow gauge.
45mm                     1:30                  45 mm (1.772 in)

I hope that this is of some use......many models in these scales are still available in Japan

Well done Kiteman -- I thought I was clever finding out about "T" gauge. You have definitely put me in my place regarding  researching a subject. RESPECT TO YOU.

Then there are all the narrow gauge variants as well, it is a real minefield.

Working on the masts  - the backdated masts are much simpler and taller than the mast supplied  for the new tanker, so making a couple of new ones. They are solid brass bar tapered down with a file and then drilled to take the yardarm - the joint is soldered for strength. Haddock has shown me a much improved way to make the mast so will use that on the next model.
I am also having to increase the height of the funnel and swap the position of the funnel and enginroom skylights.

Well this is the fore mast filed for the crows nest to be soldered on and the sections of chain tied on to take the rigging. Just think I used to be very very very happy passing a bit of string round the outside of the mast and slapping a bit of glue on it - then Haddock showed me the error of my ways and how to use bits of chain. Now its cross eyes and a lot of expletives.

Don't blame me!!.......What size chain are you using? Would you like a bit of 42 links to the inch?

That was 26 links per inch (stolen from she who must be obeyed) and you know what you can do with your 42 links per inch !!!!!!

The will is strong but the flesh is weak !!
More bits and bobs added to the ship. Next problem is to add the chain links to the deck for the mast rigging - I forgot to add them before I put the railings on.
