Romans
« on: May 28, 2021, 03:50:14 PM »
Had a day out yesterday to York - first time in about 16months.
Popped into Monk Bar and decided to get the "Call to Arms" set of figures of Roman infantry ( thought its only a small sale but hope it helps because of the shops being shut for so long)
The first few will be made as "Romans Nil - Barbarians One" -- looking at the figures they need a little work to remove some excess plastic joining arms and shield - but heyho it was only £5.50 for 16 figures

Hi Msea,
Lots of detail painting to keep you quiet with these.
What type of plastic are they moulded in? Hard or Polythene type?
I think the Walkington Legions will be making their presence felt.
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Hi Kevin - they are a hard plastic, with good detail. Only problem is the way they have been made the shoulder and the shield has a large amount of extra plastic - but it will soon be removed  along with the seam lines.
The set contains 4 sets of 4 different soldiers so could make them into 2 or 3 different dioramas - you know I like my history, so we will see what comes of this. If nothing else its another sale for Monk Bar Models and more for the shelf of shame in Walkington - hohohoho

I don't believe you have a shelf of shame Martin.
I'm sure you'll come up with a masterpiece.

Yes I agree Martin. I get the most enjoyment from the making of the model. It's icing on the cake if it looks good.

I too enjoy the making especially if there's some research/history in the mix.

I thought they were all of a polythene like material, soft plastic surely, thermosoftening, thought you taught technology.

Backdrop for the first of the Roman models now made - next job is making the base and the backwall to paste the poster on.

Shouldn't that be in Latin?

What did the Romans do for us?
