Republic Thunderbolt P47D Bubbletop 1/48
« on: April 13, 2020, 12:32:06 PM »
Given the current circumstances I suddenly found myself with some spare time away from work so I decided to get a model built.  First one in many years.  This is my first attempt at an Alclad 2 finish.  I learnt a lot from this build and also how much I enjoy the hobby and have missed modelling.

Kit is the Tamiya 1/48 P47D and I used an Eduard photo etch set to add a little extra detail.

Attached are a few photos of the model plus a shot of the original aircraft for comparison.

That's a really nice model. The finish look excellent. You should be pleased with that.

Hey Mike, great to hear from you - the website has really come into it's own at the moment so good to see you on here.  Did you ever get the Westland Lysander
finished?  I remember you bringing it along as WIP to the Bridlington Buffet meeting on one of your fleeting visits and I often wondered how you got on with it.  If you did half as good as job on it as the P47, then it'll still be twice as good as mine!

Its so nice to read all your kind comments.  Very appreciated and good motivation to get more done now.

I have very fond memories of club meets and trips so its great to see you all active on the forum, especially when we can't actually meet up in person.

The Lysander will get finished one of these days.  Its nearly done but I had a disaster with the canopy and some overspray so it got put on the shelf and forgotten about but now I have the motivation to tackle it again and get it finally finished.

Happy modelling to everyone during this time.  Stay safe.

Mike

Thanks for the update on Lizzie, Mike.  Let's hope you can sort the canopy out as the one on The Jug is exquisite!

The reason the canopy on the Jug is so good is a tip I learned many years ago from attending the club meets.  I think it might have been Kevin who suggested I dip the canopies into Future before doing anything with them.  This seams to keep them looking nice and clear and protects them from fogging with super glue etc.

Over the years I learnt a lot form the other club members.   :)

Good to hear from you. Pleased you haven't lost your modelling skills.
Alclad is good stuff and I think breathing the fumes is keeping the virus at bay! Only joking but it's great stuff but strange the way it seems to use up a whole airbrush full in a flash.
