Hi all,
I have just watch a short film on 992 squadron - it is here on line
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=992+squadron&&view=detail&mid=261C44EE882993715481261C44EE882993715481&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3D992%2Bsquadron%26FORM%3DHDRSC3

I found it interesting, just for the vehicles, some are Fordson Sussex types.

Mirrors and starting handle added - I always forget them, lights still to paint.
As I said earlier, could be better, but it will end up the farthest away on a three vehicle diorama so what the photos sees the eye doesn't.

Well, I have spent the last week, messing about with the idea of a barrage balloon in 1:48 scale - quite big, yes.
The idea was to coat a balloon with brown papers gummed parcel tape, a few layers I thought - 3 or four, add some fins and see how it went.
Well it went quite well.
Martin at the shop supplied the balloon.
I duly coated it with the tape - it has a water soluble adhesive on one side, so cut it into pieces and stick it on. $ layers.
I allowed it to dry and coated it with a thin plaster wash, allowed it to dry - lots of sanding in-between.

Then I popped the balloon - disaster, the parcel tape had stuck to the balloon and here is the result. I am not sure that I can retrieve this?

Why not do it as a part deflated balloon being winched up or down  -  never a disaster just another idea for a model

I am attempting a repair but the surface is not as smooth as it should be.

I have to ask myself "why did he pop the balloon?".

Haddock.
It would have slowly deflated and probably done the same, so I just hurried the process along.

I could have gone on about diffusion across a semi-permeable membrane, pressure differences and maybe even osmosis.
But I didn't.
I used a piece of thick wire, pieces the balloon and pulled out the dents, rather like a car body shop.
I will add a few more layers of gummed paper and see how it looks.
What a way to spend your day.
