Gaps filled and further work done on seams followed by Vallejo RLM78 Lichtblau sprayed on the undersurfaces and sides. Once dry Vallejo RLM81 Braunviolett was applied to the upper surfaces and as a mottle. As I was spraying and once it had dried it became apparent that I hadn't shook the bottle enough and what I'd applied was a green colour, so undaunted I gave it a good shake before applying the 'correct' colour.

The vacform nose glazing was carefully cut out, you only get one chance, and fitted. It had been masked prior to painting and cutting. Somewhere along the line in the years I'd had this in my stash I lost the cockpit canopy so to complete the build I've borrowed one from another 262, unfortunately this isn't the correct size so it's just held in place with Elmo's PA glue. I contacted MPM to try and get a replacement and they said contact Special Hobby, who haven't replied yet. When I came to remove the top nose canopy masking I found that it had reacted with the CA gel  which meant removing and cleaning it. Refitted, using ordinary glue, it still wouldn't sit correctly so it now looks as if it's unlocked preflight. Drawings and photos show that MPM/Special Hobby got the shape wrong anyway!! The probes and aerials were then fitted and it was time to put the three components together. I started by fitting the U3 to the unmannned and had to adjust the brackets where the cockpit was first followed by one of wing struts. The brass fitting for this refused to go back in place and after several attempts leapt to escape!!! I'd already found it once on the carpet monster. The etch brass representing the control cables etc which run down the middle struts were then attached before the two planes were attached to the launch trolley. As there are no clear instructions it took two attempts before I was happy with the sit.
The U3 is marked as an a/c from III/KG 76 the Geschwader codes of which are from the very old Frog Arado Ar 234 and went down well considering their age, 50+?, the unit badge is from spares as were others to go with the kit decals. This model is definitely not a 'shake and make' but it's taught me a few things along the way, though it's definitely not one for a beginner.
