Left hand section has now had a coat of Flory "dark dirt" weathering wash - used and removed when dry.
Thank you Tony for the idea and the bottle of wash to try.
That looks great!

I've just sent my galabeyas from the Nile criuse to the charity shop so I'm ok thanks. Good tip re keying in plaster.
Maybe we can temp you with one of our many other fantastic offers - YoHoHo
Putting the selling to one side the first thin coat of paste keyed into the wood base and the wood surround varnished.
Is it ordinary interior filler stuff? I mix some with PVA to get it to bond.

Hi Red  the paste is modeling paste by pebeo, got it from the Hobby Store in Hull a few years ago at reduced price - as you would expect - hohoho.
When the ship is finished and embedded in the final layer of paste will colour it and then use some gel to give it a final finish, this dries clear and gives a depth and shine  to the water.

Hi Msea,
The above is very interesting. I have a couple of 'wet' projects that I might need to utilise the above description and method.
I know where to get advice if I get stuck.
Cheers,

Four of the 6inch guns put together - when solid the brass bits to be add - listen for the naughty nautical language.

Thanks to you both - the coffeeeee was needed after trying to add the brass lifting eyes.
Decided that I will now drill two 1/2mm holes to fit the brass bits in so they don't fall over before they are fixed solidly - only another 7 guns to go - MORE COFFEEEEEE
