While I wait for Pegasus Bridge to dry I have started the new theme.
Here is the base for the first model.
Some of you will know what this is- maybe!!!

Like my waist!
Well I have changed the title and yes it will get bigger as the launch bay for Thunderbird 2 grows.
This is the Adventures in Plastic kit - ex- Aoshima, I think.
The scale is 1:350, so it should suit the ship modellers,

So far, all in the kit.
Some filling required on the body and the pods.
I'm sure it will all be good and sorted.
What filler are you using?
Quote from: Bigkev on November 18, 2024, 03:34:08 PMI'm sure it will all be good and sorted.

Humbrol on this one, but I have others.
The idea was to just build this out of the box.
But, it only shows the central section of the launch bay, the bit that leads out to the runway with the moving palm trees.
The the left is where the 6 pods are stored on a conveyor to run under TB2, (some say there were 7 pods?)
The the right was a storage area for other vehicles and maintenance and such.
Well, I will finish this and have a think.
Martin may be right, it may grow!!!!!
I am sure it will :o :o :o :o
Looking great. I was tempted by a kit of the 'Fireflash' airliner that was rescued when it's undercarriage failed but baulked at the price!!! Hobbycraft know how to mark things up!!!
It's looking good Dave. I agree with Martin - it will probably grow.

Hi Zak,
I've had a look and it COULD be another pod, but as you don't get anymore view only the merest side of 'a pod', for me the Jury's out.
You could create a whole new episode........
Attmept to recreate two lesser known vehicles.
Lady bird jet- Tin Tins jet
Jt1 - Jeff Tracy's private jet.
A la Tony Wilson - plasticine models, remember this is 1/350 scale!
That shows a lot of skills - I could only try making it out of bits of plastic in the scrap box ??? ??? ???
Quote from: MSea on November 20, 2024, 01:44:18 PMThat shows a lot of skills - I could only try making it out of bits of plastic in the scrap box ??? ??? ???
That was my first thought and I may go back to that if I don't like this.
If in doubt invoke the 6ft rule and put them at the back, great work though. Nice to see TB4 in the other vehicles.
Great effort in Plasticene, Tony W would be grinning that you too succumbed to the plasticene modelling bug.
I have only the ability to have a go in plasticard.
Although I have been tempted to extend this on both sides to include the pod storage bay and the bay at the right hand side, it would involve buying another kit, so that all 6 pods would be on show. The Aoshima ones are selling for about £40 and I am tempted, but no. I will just leave the kit alone at present. Maybe some time in the future.
But, then, it is very tempting to build something a bit different!
Decals need to be applied. and some final areas to touch up and a final varnish of some sort.
Maybe Santa might bring you another....?
You're cracking on with this Dave. All the vehicles are looking good.

The Complete Book of Thunderbirds by Chris Bentley.
Models's looking great Dave.
I bought this at Scalemodelworld and was very disappointed on opening the box, not much in there and expensive.
No where near as good as Thunderbird 2 and launch bay.
I started it on Thursday and have now finished it, again 1:350 scale.

That will be after the Playday tomorrow though.
Thunderbird 1 looks good in its bay. Shame that you felt let down by the kit.

I forgot the comma (now replaced), so yes, more Thunderbirds!
I managed to put these together on the Playday, they now need painting.
Here is the pilot of Thunderbird 1 - Scott Tracy, he looks a bit scary at the moment, I will try to tone things down a bit. He looks nothing like the real (?) one, if there ever was a real one?
Not sure about the lining, maybe too stark.
Looking good. What sort of size/scale is he?
Unsure of the scale, he is about 7cm high or thereabouts.
I was following the box artwork for the sash colours -they are all wrong and should be as follows:
Scott pale yellow
Virgil orange
Alan pale blue
Gordon Off white
John Lilac
Will I repaint them, time will tell.
Now if I could only get that face on one of my zombie figures it would be :o :o :o :o

Oh, quite wrong then......
Never mind..
The next model is in 1:350 scale and is a resin kit.
I purchased this at Telford from Timeless Hobbies.
This is a Thunderbirds related machine.
Here are the technical details.
Sidewinder
Us Army 4 legged, all terrain vehicle, built by Universal Engineering Incorporated.
Gyroscopically balanced.
Used for jungle clearing.
30 machines are known to exist.
Length 295 ft
Height 100 ft
Weight 500 tons
Crew 20 (but can carry 50)
The model was produced by Stargazer Models and casting was by UNCL.
Here are the instructions, quite brief really.
This will certainly be an eyecatcher and show stopper!
Quote from: Bigkev on November 28, 2024, 09:59:47 AMThis will certainly be an eyecatcher and show stopper!
One can always hope!
The body is one large casting.
The floor is in two parts.
The parts have been cleaned up and then fitted together, some filling was required to the floor.
The holes are for the legs, these have been cast around a carbon fibre rod to add some strength, this will be needed to support the large body castings weight.
Test fitting the legs.
Looking forward to seeing this one built. Everything else looks great also (as ever I'm playing catchup). An interesting scratchbuilt that could keep you busy for a while is the road laying machine from one of the episodes. Jungle in front and tarmac highway, including white lines out the rear. Now that would be a good challenge for you?
Is this the one you Mean?
Further work on the legs and claws.
Body undercoated and painted a sort of Battleship grey with red bits, gun barrels attached.
Still have the details to paint and the decals to add.
Portholes and windows still to do.
Quite a simple kit, as it is really just a hunk of resin.
Will you make a full size one to drive round Bempton in ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sidewinder almost complete, just the odd bit to add, when I find them!
Looking great Dave.
This is all Chris Hansell's fault.
I am going to attempt to build the Gary Houseman Road building machine, mine will not be an exact copy, but more of a flavour of the original.
I found this rendering on the internet if Airfix ever made the model.
This will be in 1:350- scale in keeping with The Sidewinder.
Now thats what I call proper model making - will follow with interest :) :) :)
You could always put it forward to the department of transport to put an end to our road woes.
Terrific modelling, I too will be watching closely with interest.
I don't remember seeing this as a kit in Britain. Perhaps Airfix of America? Should have checked on Scalemates first before posting. Oh, and it's two Ls in Hansell. You'll be putting an E in Tracy next then you'll really be in trouble, lol!!!!

One can only hope it will be, its all trial and error, it may end up looking nothing like the real thing (can I say that?)- well the original model anyway.
After dusting and hoovering, I knocked up the explosives truck/tractor. This is carried along with a Heli jet. The Heli jet on the top and the truck inside the road machine, the front opens to allow it to enter.
What are you using for tracked wheels? From the spares box?
Quote from: chriswil42 on December 01, 2024, 03:39:06 PMWhat are you using for tracked wheels? From the spares box?
Yes, but from the Thunderbirds box, it is from an extra Mole, most of the tracked vehicles used the same chassis. The studio models used a toy Vickers Vigor tractor.
Look here
https://picclick.co.uk/VICTORY-INDUSTRIES-VICKERS-VIGOR-TRACTOR-with-BOX-vintage-395855784770.html
They apparently bought a job lot, they also seemed to have used the Revell 1:32 Kaman Husky for bits of the Heli Jet.
The explosives tractor.
Bits of plastic card and rod.
More bits of plastic stuck onto the road constructor.
Wow!! this is looking really great. Keep at it.

Extending the TB2 hangar to include the pod bay and the whole of the hangar.
Trial fitting and seeing what can be used, as usual it will be too big!
You might need an extension to the modelling room, let alone the Thunderbird 2 hanger.
You've certainly got stuck into the Thunderbirds theme Dave. Looking very nice

Difficult to find photos of the windows, they seem to have red curtains here.
The wing lounges are proving difficult to research.
Did they have windows underneath as the kit suggest?
Interesting research Dave.
