P51H Mustang
« on: April 13, 2020, 01:44:24 PM »
As an antidote to the 3.7" HAA gun I have also been working on the 'Modelsvit's Mustang P51H.
This has gone together very well, the instructions are clear and the fit, surface details and general completeness of the package is as good as any main stream kit.
The P51H was used almost exclusively by the US ANG and the colours schemes adopted are as bright as any. The yellow nose, tail and wing tips of the Massachusetts ANG appealed so that's the scheme.
The photos I have posted show the stages from yellow trim, aluminium doped wings, black primmer for the Alclad coatings and finally the Alclad as applied. A lot of masking involved but it looks great once the all was revealed.
Stay with me to see the decaying and fitting of the details.
Great kit and I look forward to their P82 Twin Mustang.

The transfers are now in place. Again full marks for the kit decals, thin but strong and settled down well with 'Micro Set'.
On to the details!

The P51H is now complete.
I'm very pleased with the way the Modelsvit kit has worked out, a very complete package although perhaps just a little too much etch.
The undercarriage seems rather fragile but the real P51H appears to have very lightweight components and the model captures this well. The most difficult part was all the masking especially the masking of the yellow nose and tail sections where there is a decal supplied cheat line that has to fit.
Now looking forward to the Twin Mustang.

You've made a lovely job of it Bill.
Very colourful.
I look forward to seeing it in the plastic... at some point in the dim and distant future!

(Is that a new photo by the way?)
