A couple of photos of the nearly finished model.
Just getting up the courage to try and make the rust on the washing machine flow the correct way, for how it is stood.

Turn it upside down?
Looks very "out of this world". Were you brought up on "Do not adjust your set ................ - now what was the programme called?

Excellent model Martin. All very impressive. The rusting is just magnificent. John's tutorials worked then?

Thanks Chris -- yes Johns stuff was good, and I also bought the Mig book "The Modelling Guide for Rust and Oxidation"

Now your talking my kind of language, oxidation, gain or loss of electrons, now which is it?
Is rusting merely oxidation or is some hydration involved there too?
What is rust, some kind of hydrated Iron oxide, but how many water molecules and is it just iron (II) or iron (III) or a mixture.
You just brought back some great memories, ah well, back to lockdown.

I would say "you need to get out more" but that's not possible at the moment - so just keep thinking about formula !!!! that should keep you quiet for a day or so - hohohohho

I thought oxidation was a combining with oxygen such iron so that you get Fe2O3 and FeO.

What have I started - hohohohooo ( thats H4O6  to you lot )

It is/can be but the technical definition is loss of electrons.
In its simplest sense it is the addition of oxygen or the removal of hydrogen.
Rusting is not simply oxidation, other processes are also going on.

Thanks for that Dave.
