Azur Breguet Alize

On with the next project.  I thought this would look good with the Gannets I made last year.

Picture two shows the second thing I did, after cleaning up the mating surfaces of the fuselage halves.  I taped the fuselage together to check the fit of the canopy.  it is so much easier to make slight changes to the fit at this stage rather than trying to make changes when it is all glued together.

The last picture shows the progress to date, lots of assembling done, and now ready to paint the inside parts.

Happy festive modelling,
Roger

Hi Roger,
I remember you talking about this project at Telford.
Looks like its going to be an unusual looking aircraft.
It will look nice posed with a Gannet, but also with Adrian's Bregeut Atlantique.
Nice progress so far.
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Interior now painted and ready for assembly.  The first picture includes the radome, exhaust and overhead panel to go inside the cockpit canopy, the second is a close up of the flight deck for your amusement.
TTFN,
Roger

It always seems such a shame to cover up all that interior details, at least we know it is there.

It should all be visible - but you will have to look closely!

While I,ve been waiting for news on a poorly person I have tinkered.

Photos show the searchlights, and overhead controls made from sprue and plasticard.  The main nose intake has been tidied up and the small upper one(oil cooler perhaps?) opened up.  The arrestor hook has been reshaped and had the lightening holes added.

The final picture shows the propellor.  The blades are probably the best 1/72nd kit blades I have ever seen, beautifully thin and with an accurate shape and twist to them.  I was stood at Duxford looking at the propellor on a Sea Fury and wondering how we could get ever get blades thin enough - this kit answers that question.  It has been done by designing the mould so that the mould seam runs across the faces of each blade rather than round the edge.  This makes the seam easy to remove with no danger of reshaping the blade, and has given a lovely thickness.

Hope the meeting goes well, sorry I can't make it tonight.

Cheers
Roger

Just when things were going well....

I needed to add more nose weight, and thought I could pop it in through the nose intake.  This worked fine, and I had cleaned up all the joints around the canopy, when I noticed some glue had got inside the canopy.  I managed to prise the canopy off, and sand the glue off the inside ready for polishing up, but noticed a small stress fracture in the bottom corner - see second photo.

All my own fault of course, so slightly annoyed with myself.

Project now on hold while I see if I can source a replacement canopy!

I've noticed ships and tanks don't have much glazing.

I'll start something else now and get back to this one in due course.

Happy modelling,
Roger

Hi Roger,
Shame about canopy, I'm sure Azur will come to your aid.
Modelling can be a bit 'challenging at times'
It'll come good I'm sure.
Cheers,
Bigkev

While waiting for the Modelart Helldiver decals to be printed, I thought I would press on with this build.

I had no joy sourcing a replacement canopy, but had a go with wet and dry, then successively finer grades of polishing cloth. I got there in the end and the stress crack isn't noticeable, so we moved on to finishing construction and painting.

It has been slow progress due to this excellent weather we have been having, but this mornings rain saw the painting finished - photo attached.

Cheers for now,
Roger

Markings all in place - the kit ones for most of them, with ModelArt Cocardes from the Crusader sheet as the colours were better and the size was right.

Cheers

Absolutely.

I can see you thinking along the same lines.  Two seat Yak 38?

Anyway, pleased with the look now it has the national markings on!

Finished this one a few weeks ago. There was a slight hitch at the end - the "sit" was all wrong.  I ended up chopping a couple of mm from the main gear legs, and adding about six mm to the nose leg to get it about acceptable.  Worth checking on if you are building this kit.
Also it then became a tail sitter, so more lead was required.
Cheers for now,
Roger
