HOBBYBOSS SMS SEYDLITZ IN 1:350
« on: December 21, 2017, 12:00:28 PM »
                                Got this at Telford.
Thought I'd make a bit of a start to give me a break from USS New Jersey which was driving me nuts.
It was such a pleasure to build, I got carried away so it's nearly ready to think about sloshing on some paint.
              Here's progress to date.
The hull is water-lined, main superstructure assembled, guns, some of the ships boats and some brass work.
Now it needs to go back in the box so I can press on with New Jersey.

Don't get too frustrated with the other, older kit.

Now that USS New Jersey is complete, I can carry on with this one. No pictures as yet but the hull and decks are almost completely painted, so watch this space.

Here's a shot of the real thing just to remind you what it may look like.

That is a very atmospheric shot, reminds me of the East Coast at the moment.

Thinking about Zaks comments above - will you do the Seydlitz as she attacked Great Yarmouth or Hartlepool, or after Dogger Bank or Jutland battles ????? Lots of battle damage for the last 2.

It will have to be after Jutland when the torpedo net shelves and booms were removed during her repairs,
simply because there's non in the kit and I don't feel inclined to scratch-build anything. (getting lazy in my
old age).

Paint job to date. The decks have had a wash to try and pick out the individual planks. It actually looks better in the flesh so to speak, bit more work to do yet to dirty it up a bit.

Bit more progress folks. Not much is fixed in place, just painted as sub-assy's.
Just for Kevin, you can see now the reasoning behind the unusual layout of the main guns.
The two mid-ship turrets(mounted in echelon) can be trained over both sides so a full broadside
can be fired. What the effect would be on the ships boats is anybody's guess.

Bit more progress folks, slow but sure. Some of the detail was quite challenging to fit. Lots more to go.

The journey actually took 8 1/2 hrs there, and the same back, it was 34C on Saturday in Windsor and at least 32C on Sunday at Hampton Court. The food at the hotel was "edible". We set off at 5.30am on Saturday, arrived home after midnight on Sunday, or is that Monday morning.
Next year she can watch it on telly!
Haddock.
PS I don't like gardening.
