The transfers in this kit aren't as comprehensive as the ones from the Revell kit, I will have to look through my spare transfers to see what I can come up with to make it look the part.

I built this kit also and had major problems over the fit of main components. I 'sussed' from many reviews this to be a common complaint. Looking forward to seeing your efforts rewarded in a unique looking aircraft though!

Just for comparison the aircraft on the left is the Panda Models F35A in 1/48 so the berkut must have been a big aircraft

Thanks Kiteman, I wonder if any kit manufacturers will take this on in 1/48? I probably wouldn't be able to afford it if they did!!

On with the painting, after two or three coats of Vallejo Matt black I masked up for the white flash. After spraying with Akan white  I removed the masking and much  to my annoyance the white came up with some of the mask. Bearing in mind the Akan paint has been curing for at least 4 days it is still annoying. Maybe Vallejo and Akan are not compatible. Knowing the conventional way of masking gives me problems with paint bleed I have several Lion Roar scribing templates which I used to cut the corresponding shape out of masking tape in one piece, it is these that peeled off with quite a few deletive expletives!!!

With hindsight maybe I should have run a knife blade around the edge of the paint before lifting the mask, DOH!!!

I've been doing a bit on this but nothing to brag a about, got the transfers on and outlined the panel lines and opted for a satin gloss finish. Against my better judgement I used Humbrol Clear Satin Varnish, big mistake, it was just as bad as Humbrol Clear Matt Varnish for drying with a white 'frosty' finish. Needless to say the bottles of Humbrol Clear Matt Varnish and Satin Varnish have now gone in the bin. What to do with the 'frosty' finish? I touched up the panels with a sort of dry brushing technique which has got me out of the proverbial.
Just need to varnish over again and touch up the panel lines with a view to it being at the next club meeting hopefully.

Hi Bridlufc,
Sorry you have fallen foul of the Humbrol Acrylic Vanish syndrome..................

You are one of many. Perhaps Humbrol need to look at the formulation, or at least withdraw the product as is.........
And replace it with something more user friendly, something like Vallejo type products.

Ooop's my head is now on the chopping block for words of treason...........!

Oh well, at least I won't get old!
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

I agree with you entirely Bigkev,  once bitten twice shy, Airfix or Humbrol will have to up their game somewhat to entice me back into the fold

The galling thing is Airfix/Humbrol won't admit there is a problem, but its their loss not mine I don't have to buy their stuff!!!
