Keep sloshing it on.
I'm becoming a little concerned by the cavalier attitude that some of our members are beginning to adopt towards the hobby.
Can we please use a little more decorum and give it the seriousness that it deserves.

We could do to practice our spelling as well, not a good example to the younger generation!

So the two Ambulances are nearing completion (piccies coming real soon!) So I have made a start on my next projects.......a tale of two engines. Just like the Model T and the DH9 compliment each other as ambulances and will appear on the same diorama, so is it with my next project. They are both in 1:48 scale as always with me and I thought that these two could also compliment each other and appear on their diorama together. The other night I was doing a little research on one of the models in my little library when I came across a photo in a book with not only the model I was researching in it, but, lo and behold, both models together in the same shot.........wowza, you can imagine my excitement on finding these two together in glorious black and white. So the diorama is now decided for me, I will build the picture!!!
The question is...what are they???

My instinctive reaction is to say that the aircraft engine - on the left - is a Rolls Royce Merlin and the exhaust layout screams Hawker Hurricane.  So, my first guess is a Hawker Hurricane supported by "something or other" which shall remain nameless for now until I have something more to base my next guess on.  My aircraft recognition is not so bad, but with vehicles, unless I was trained to recognise them in the various "cold war recognition guides", I know what it is when I can read the name on the back.

It does look like a merlin and the other looks like a side valve engine with a starting handle, but I may be wrong.

Amazing spotting work from you both, one Point each. Yes it`s a merlin belonging to a Hawker Hurricane (but which one?) and Zak, you are quite correct it is a 3 cylinder side valve engine with a cranking handle, but to what does it belong? Here, a couple of more clues and progress:

Could it be the Airfix Refueller in 1/48?

...along with a Hawker Hurricane Mk I - looks like a 4 gun bay in the wing there, just past the port for the wing light.
