Thanks chaps, and on with the show. Heres the next one that I have started airbrushing with more success. Its the Big Boy Locomotive No. 4004 from Revell in 1:87 (HO I think). These Locos went out of service in the USA in 1966. The model itself is an old Monogram model in a Revell box. It is more or less all together except for a few pipes and hoses and it went together ok. The crux of the apostrophe (to quote Frank Zappa) will be in the paint job. I have done some sniffing around on tìnternet ànd allthough shiny new it looks ok I have opted for summat similar to an old well used version (see piccie). This will be a challenge of weathering and playing around with the airbrush and all sorts of dabbing and other techniques. So this is the start, 2 bogies, a tender and the main body itself. 4 models in one really. It is a bit long (over a foot) to get into one piccie and still see what is going on so I have split it down for ya! (The bogies are the same colour by the way, t`s just the lighting)

Was the quote not "the crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe?

You're going to have your work cut out to make a decent job of that weathering aren't you.  Crikey, you'll need to take us very slowly through this cos if it works, I for one will learn much.  Viel glück.

Roger

Looking forward to this one, looks like you can really go to town with the weathering.

Don't forget the black cotton wool smoke!

I like a bit of Frank Zappa myself, ' Don't eat the yellow snow', ' The  muffin man', and my favourite 'Bobby Brown' to name a few. Apparently he released 89 albums, astonishing.

He did, and i have Most of them. My favorite solo is Watermelon in easter hay.

I haven't listened to Zappa for many years, Peaches on Regalia? seems to ring a bell.

So as an aside (again) to putting rust on the Big Boy, I have dragged an older model out of my stash to have a stab at, but the question is......what is it??? Come on Kev!!

Bigkev

Hi Kiteman,
Well a challenge has arisen............

Initial thoughts are it might be a Savioa-Marchetti Floatplane of the WWI era.
Intrigued........

I hope my next is always better

Roger

Macchi M5 float plane maybe?

Bigkev

Hi Roger,
Yes I think we are on the same line of thought, though we could be wrong.......................
Mr. Kiteman, put us out of our misery please..........

Well done Roger and Kev, a Macchi M5 it is. I am impressed.
This is a 1:48 kit from Fly Models, the quality is not too good and it fits where it touches but I shall make summat of it. I started by putting some wood effect on the inside of the cockpit and then adding the few details that are there. Very little of this will be seen when the fuselage halves are together so I am not to bothered about going to great lengths here. Getting the fuselage halves to sit correctly was a bit of a struggle but with tape and those very handy clamps that I got thanks to this website I got it sitting about right, but correction work will be neccessary. As I said the quality is not very good. The story so far...
