Something different: ME 323 Gigant

It's not just the wingspan that's astounding but the short body length in comparison.  Of course with what it was designed to carry it would need long wings and once the aircraft is assembled, it won't be so apparent, but that last picture demands a sharp intake of breath!

You`re quite right my friend, if you look at the picture of the assembled model "wings roughly postitioned" it does not look out of proportion, but with the wing detached it seems that the wing is far too long...strange phenomena!

Of course when people actually meet you and realise you're only 3 foot tall, won't they be disappointed in the size of your "gigant"?  yuk yuk

Got a bit more done on the beast......wiring in the wing, servos and motor power cables....6 bloody motors on this thing...loadsa wiring, loadsa repetition work. Enjoying it though!

So the wing is planked as far as it goes and the ribs are all topped. The shape is now there and I can start on the problematic motor assemblies........more to come.

So now we have the Problem of the Motor gondolas. According to the plans the motors sit parallel to the centre line of the fuselage in plan view but in side view they have a declination of 3 degrees. The question is; 3 degrees to what? It certainly isn`t 3 degrees to the horizontal or to the wing bottom surface....it is 3 degrees to a dotted line on the plan which cannot be measured on the model itself. So how do I guarantee a 3 degree declination to a non existent Datum. Tony...you are an engineer...come up with a plan!!!
I have photographed the plan so that you can see what I mean. The wing does not sit horizontally on the fuselage either....it sits "nose up"

Is the 3 degree downwash based on when the 'Gigant' is sitting fully on its wheeled undercarriage?

Does that then compensate for the incidence of the wings in that stance.......................?

I had the same thought but unfortunately it is not the case. The datum for the 3 degrees, according to the plan, is a line that is not measurable in practice and bears no relationship to any datum on the fuselage that I can see.
