My latest project seems to involve large amounts of bending and sticking etched brass - not one of my favourite occupations.
Anyway, I did find that the etched brass did stick a lot better after a clean with a fibre glass pencil.
The project is something along the maritime theme- you will just have to wait and see.

Hi Zak,

Bending Brass, for me a clumsy numpty the thought of it fills me with dread.

Liked the advice about the fibre galsspencil though, something I will try if my 'numptiness' allows me to try.

Maritime eh...........................interesting!

Hi Zak, thanks for the tip regarding the fibreglass pencil and photo etch. You and maritime?? There's more to you than meets the eye model wise methinks. Or do you have too much time on your hands?

Too much time and not enough skill.

Hi Zak,

Disagree with your comment not enough skill.

Blooming heck! if I could model as well  and at such a good build rate as you I'd be well chuffed.

Don't put yourself down, you ARE VERY SKILLED.

I am about to venture into the untrodden world of etched brass with a 1/72 scale aircraft seat.  I bough a set about 15 or more years ago on a whim and, by good fortune, was given a model for free - upholding the club tradition - because it had no seat.

Advice please:

What is the best medium for sticking bits of brass together?

Do I need any special tools for cutting and bending - I'm thinking a steel rule, hobby vice and tweezers would suffice for the size I am working on?

Is there any speacial preparation needed prior to painting?

Anything special I need to do after painting to seal it?

I could have gone online but I find it much more rewarding to ask you guys.  Cheers in advance.

Hi Dave, use superglue for etched brass. Side cutting clippers for removing part from the fret. Needle files to remove any tabs where the parts have been removed from the fret. As for bending, there are quite a selection available but they can be a bit on the expensive side. The tools you have mentioned may suffice, the only thing to do would be to try them.

Many thanks.  I'll let you know how I get on.  Or even better, hope to show you at the May meeting!
