M-19 Tank transporter
« on: January 30, 2024, 12:26:04 PM »
Another kit started at the last PlayDay. It's the original 1979 release of the Matchbox kit which had a couple of re-releases before the final one by Revell in 2007. Moulded in the usual 3 coloured trees of the period with the rear of the box showing the marking options. The instructions are of the exploded type and are vague at times re placement and which part to use for which model. More on this later. I hope the decals, transfers back then, will have stoodthe test of time.

Yes Chris it seems to be going together quite well though Martin P said he had difficulty fitting the trailer wheels so I should take care there.
All the major subassemblies have been near enough comlpleted and those plus all the other parts have been primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 Black Primer. This will be my second attempt at using this as a primer and pre shader. I sprayed outside, as I prefer to, with the weather being good yesterday and the few gaps in the primer only became apparent in the photo!! I've left the cab and bonnet seperate from the chassis as I will be glazing the cab. Fit up to now is good if you take your time.

I also made one when it first came out, I could see all the small parts easily then. Interested to see how it turns out.

I also built a load of 4mm tank transporters, this one included.
There may be a thread on here, but it may have been before I started posting.
I sold them all.

Yes Kev, I intend to put a spare German SPG frame on it, albeit 1/72 scale so it will look massive!!!

The wheels were fitted to the axles and those for the trailer went into position quite easily, all painted Tamiya Rubber Black with Dark Grey dry brushed on the running surfaces. Vallejo Steel has been applied to areas where wear would usually be found, this was then partially covered with chipping fluid followed by a coat of Vallejo US Olive Drab. Once dry this was rubbed back to show the Steel and in places taken back to the primer as it looks like oil spills. The hinges for the folding rear ramps were very fragile and both broke. Despite various attempts to fix them they wouldn't bond and so I decided to glue the ramps in place and then retro fit the halves of the hinges. Unfortunately one pinged out of the tweezers and became a victim of the carpet monster. The winch gear was made up and fitted behind the cab. Again I found that positioning the parts to make this up didn't quite match the instuctions, but that could just be me?

Like the paint chipping effect, very realistic.
