TRIBAL CLASS DESTROYER HMCS HURON IN 1:350 BY TRUMPETER.
« on: June 17, 2021, 12:56:01 PM »
This was a 79th birthday present from Mrs Haddock (she doesn't know that yet).
The box contains the sprues, a small etched brass fret, build and painting instructions.
Haddock.

Past experience has taught me that there are always errors in Trumpeter kits, however, the modern ones are nicely moulded so you don't have to fight the plastic to correct any errors you may find.
A bit of research (lots in fact) produces a list, all this comes from various modelling forums and various Naval websites so it's not all my own work, just picking the brains of others.
Here's a list of stuff that needs work.
            1. The hull shape around the bow needs correcting.
            2. The  after funnel is too high.
            3. The paint colour call up is wrong although the pattern is correct.
            4. The 2 pdr pom poms are depicted as an eight barreled mount, not the quad mount (you can't just chop four barrels off!).
            5. The ships boats are those in use by the German navy, not RN style.

No 2 is easy, just chop about 3mm off the top by scaling off pics obtained from t'internet
No 4 is a 3D printed job from Starling Models, three in a pack.
No 5 is the same as No 4, these are exquisite by the way.
No 1 involves a fair amount of good old fashioned modelling using some info obtained from a modelling website, whoever posted it earns my thanks.
No 3 took some finding but I have to assume is correct.

Hopefully, the pictures will speak for themselves.

Haddock.

(Hope this drivel makes sense.)

So I've been chipping away at this in between other stuff for a while.
Here's the state of play to date.
Ships boats yet to paint and fit plus a couple of antennae to add.
Then a suitable base at some time in the future.

Hi Haddock,
I'm sure that Mrs Haddock knows all your little age defining lines, and that this present will be well worth it.
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Ships boats painted and fitted. Just waiting to be set on a base with some water.

You must have quite a few awaiting bases.

Now then Cap'in Haddock,

As always I'm  in awe of your skill and approach to the models you make. This one is yet another excellent example that impresses. Thank you for sharing it with us.

It's getting embarrasing.
