Me 369
« on: December 01, 2020, 04:11:14 PM »
As per MSea it's time for a memory test. Who can remember me bringing this as a WIP to the April 2018 Meeting? You remember Meetings? It's where we all sat around and took the mickey out of each other in person!!
Anyway I digress. Whilst waiting for the white to dry on the Dove I needed something to fill in the time and so decided to finish this. To recap it's the spare Me 309 body and tailplanes that came with the RS Models Me 509, the wings and engines from my original build of the Airfix Me 262, dated early 1960s, and bits from the spares box and some scratchbuilding. The seams have been tidied up and the u/c sourced from a MPM 262 kit. The nose is the spare rear canopy from the Airfix Bv 141 filed down and filled with weight. Intending to make this a Recce a/c I've drilled holes underneath to simulate camera ports and will fit a fairing to the nose for a foreward downward looking camera.

A little more progress made today after mowing the lawn and putting up the external Christmas lights!! The undercarriage and forward camera fairing fitted plus doors for the front u/c scratchbuilt. Gosh, this is like real modelling!!!

After a lot of trawling through spare vacform and injection canopies I settled on the spare 'blown' one from the latest Airfix release of the D.H.C. Chipmunk. A lot of careful pruning and sanding got it to nearly fit so the first layer of filler has been applied. Before fixing it in place an armoured headrest was sourced along with a gunsight.

An initial coat of Xtracrlic RLM 76 Graublau has revealled some more work is required around the front of the cockpit combing. The uppersurfaces and sides will be masked and sprayed RLM 81 Braunviolett and RLM 82 Dunkelgrun. RLM 84 v.1 Graublau will be used for the nose.

Upper surfaces painted and the nose cone given it's first coat. The camo is based on the profile of an Me 262 based at Lechfeld and profiled in Fleischer and Rys' book.

Painting finished and the camera lenses created with Glue and Glaze. The main markings are for Stabskette /NAGr.13 from the Xtradecal Luftwaffe Fighter Reconnaissance set with everything else coming from the spares box.
As my first attempt at kit bashing to this extent I'm pleased with the result.

From certain angles it reminds me of Supercar.
