Before you all say what a "cheap skate" I am - I have purchased a silicon mold and sent for some acrylic resin.
BUT was reading on the internet about using 50/50% mix of plastercine and milliput to make things in molds. So decided to try 50/50% mix of blue tack and household filler - first one was a blob of blue tack and tried to mix with the filler. Second one chopped up the blue tack and then mixed this with the filler - will let it dry for an hour or so and see what it looks like. At the moment don't think it will do well in the mold but if it works could make some larger blocks for fancy walls that I need in the next model instead of drilling, filling out of sheet acrylic.

I like to see a bit of experimentation.
I bought a casting set a few years ago at Telford.
It worked well and I cast lots of wheels for WW1 stuff.

Good luck.
Grumpy by name and nature

Well that's been 24 hours and its still the same as when it started - that's soft  blue tack with bits of filler in it.
Will try the milliput and plastercine when I get some. For now I will wait for my acrylic resin to arrive - maybe by Thursday.

Another test - left hand one is Plaster of Paris and PVA glue mix and the one on the right is Green Stuff World acrylic resin.

The wheels for the trailers in my recent Atomic bomb build were cast using a card board frame and tube silicone using Airfix wheels as masters. It was over 30 years ago so I can't remember the name, but I do know it was red. I may have 'appropriated' it from the same place I got the white metal!!!
