Hi All,
Well a little more progress on this one. I have now added a few of the etch brass fittings that come with the kit, railings handrails, cable cutters and the like.
Must admit found it a bit easier this time, and managed to curve two railings around the gun mounting and get them attached. Handrails in 1/350 very small and tedious to work with.
Now got a coat of Red-brown for the hull undersides, the next coat will be a mid grey for the uppers then all the various guns, periscopes ariel wires, etc. to add.
Until next time a couple of pictures.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi All,
Well its now finally finished. I looked at the weathering on hull sides and toned this down a bit, to look more in scale. I also added the few decals there were, mainly flags and victory pennants the Sub No. and ship marking on conning tower.
For the flags I find it easier to attach them to a very thin piece of plasticard, as by themselves they don't want to behave, folding up on themselves, tearing, etc. I use a piece of 5 thou plasticard, and then sand it down until its almost transparent. I then give it a coat of Kleer on both sides, before then applying the decals one side at a time.
Once dry, a coat of paint on the edges to match the decal design, then another coat of Kleer to seal it in place.
The flag pennant can now be given some folding/curves if required before attaching with 'Kristel Kleer'
The model name sign comes in the kit. I painted it Tamiya gloss black and then allowed it to dry hard for a few days. It was the rubbed over a fine sanding pad to reveal the embossed name.
Finally the model was given a Satin/Matt mix of Vallejo varnish to seal everything in and give a uniform finish.
Happy with the result, but need to get more practice in on the etch brass.
Hope you like,
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi Zak,
That looks like it will be a nice vehicle, once complete.
Will it be 'stoffed' with detail.

Ah, velly good jokey Sir,

This is one of my unfinished projects. It has now moved on from 'Sub' sections to a more complete model awaiting some paint.
I hope to make the etch work better, not quite so 'Sub-standard' as my last one.
Some more pictures will follow soon.
Cheers,
Wakey wakey Bigkev.

Hi Otherworld,
They look really great.
A brilliant looking sub, and that Rolls is very smart indeed.
Do you ever find time to sleep?

Hi All,

Well whilst I was on with the Mirage Type IXc Submarine, I also began in the background this model.
Pen Pusher kindly gave me this model to build, as it had a bit more etch to practice on compared to the Mirage offering.
The model generally is well moulded in pale grey plastic of a short run nature and some detail is a little soft, however the etch is really good and fine and includes a full deck as well as railings, ariel's, cable cutters, antenna's.
On this build I have placed some plasticine and lead weights inside the hull to give a sense of weight to the model. Also I created a base from some of the parts provided, and some scratchbuilt supports.
Anyway a few pictures follow of the model so far from start to finish.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi Zak,

An ex-chemistry teacher has come up trumps.

I'm going to save that post as a reference point, for anything of German origin dealing with experimental rocket engines.
You are the Stoffer of Stof's!!

Hi Msea,
Welcome back.
Do they know you were really '008' in disguise and on a secret mission?
Anyway, some very nice pictures of several interesting aircraft in various states of disrepair/preservation.
Think we might make an aircraft modeller of you yet............................
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi All,
A little more progress on the painting stage.
The railings have been painted to match the deck and then given a coat of Kleer to match finish.
Noticed during all my handling getting the deck rails on that I rubbed off a lot of the weathering I had applied. so this has now been reinstated. It will be further 'toned down' once it has dried a little bit, in places it is a touch too heavy for my liking.
It all looks very shiny at moment due to the Kleer, but hopefully all will be toned down with a coat of matt varnish near the end.
Some pictures follow of the weathering redone on the sides,
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi Roger,
Looks very good so far.
I use a similar process, but I make 'post-it' type notes from paper and Tamiya tape.
Works just the same as your method, but helps to prevent overspray by being a little larger and therefore the spraying needs to be less accurate, a benefit in my case.
Also I pre-stick the Tamiya tape on the back of my hand or forehead to reduce the 'tackiness' of the tape prior to applying to the subject.
Keep at it R, it looks great so far.
Cheers,
Bigkev
