Hi All,
This is my next project a Heinkel He-111 H8 with a Balloon Fender.
The basis of the kit is the Airfix Heinkel He-111 H6 model, to which I will scratch build the Balloon fender from plastic card and strip. There are some other modifications to be made which I will do as the build goes along.

My initial interest arose with an article in the old August 1975 Airfix Magazine which showed a conversion by John Burgess of the then Airfix Heinkel He-111 H20 into a H-8 variant.
The H-8 was a subvariant of the earlier H series, where a number of H-4 airframes were converted in the field, by having a large metal fender attached by booms and extending in front of the aircraft. The idea was to use the aircraft against important targets that were heavily defended by barrage balloons. The aircraft were to fly into the target area and use the fender to push aside the mooring line, which would then pass down to the wingtip of the aircraft, and the cable cut by cable cutters fitted to the tips of the wing.
To compensate for the fender equipment, some 800kg of ballast was fitted into the rear fuselage which had a detrimental effect on the flying characteristics and the amount of bomb load that could be carried.
These aircraft were employed briefly on operations, but withdrawn after a short time as not being really successful on operations. The fender equipment was removed and the aircraft then found further use as glider tugs.

At this stage I have just done some test fitting of the fuselage main components, central wing and tailplanes. I am impressed with the fit of these items, but time to remove all attachment points from the sprues is needed, the tolerances are so fine. I will be drawing on Bill's build of the Airfix He-111 P2 version, which was released before the H6 variant. Bill highlighted a few minor points to watch out for during the build and will be taking his advice.

Some pictures to start the project.

Apparently the Wingnut Wings Lancaster in 1/32 is going to appear under a new name/brand of 'Border Models'.

Now, I think Andy is looking for another biggy to go with his HK Lancaster.  It's only around £500........

Modelling Projects / Airfix Beaufighter TFX.10 1/72 SEAC
« on: August 14, 2021, 06:06:48 PM »
Hi All,
Not wanting to infringe on Bob's build of the Beaufighter, I decided that having a nightmare of a job with the Cessna Lynx elsewhere on here, I wanted a project that might behave a little better.
Thus far, I have managed to get the wings, tailplane, fin, and engine nacelles assembled in 1 day. I am pleased by the great fitting of the kit.
Not wanting to make the same as Bob, I have decided to make an example of a SEAC Command machine, serving in South Asia at the end of WWII.
To start the build, I have included a couple of pictures, but note I have not done any work on the interior so far.
Thanks,
Bigkev

General Discussion / Inspiration, where do you get yours?
« on: August 04, 2021, 05:27:24 AM »
Hi All,

This thread comes after yesterday's informal committee meeting, prior to starting normal club meetings hopefully in September.

Yesterday, I had the privilege to meet up with most of the guy's on the club committee. Although this was a generally, informal meet, just talking to other club members, listening to their projects, problems, issues made me realise what being a member is all about.

It is a common interest shared by all, to learn from others experiences, or knowledge, be that technical, or just by luck. Whatever, it may be, being part of a 'group' of like minded individual's, only serves to enrich your enjoyment of the hobby.

For me, only seeing a club member and his passion for a subject near to his heart, has made me to go home and seek out that model, and I intend to build it.

Is that what being a 'club member' is all about, to share your knowledge, your interests, your skills, your passions, and to savour the company you are with.

We all have opinion's, and that is good, your opinion's may not match others within the club, but to be able to respect each others skill and interest means, we all learn to be better individuals.

Happy modelling!!

FAQ / East Riding of Yorkshire Model Show 2021
« on: April 06, 2021, 07:45:50 PM »
Hi All,

As part of our planning for this years show, we have looked at the various government restrictions and advice on public gatherings due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

As such, after very careful consideration to the safety of all our exhibitors, visitors and club members, we have reluctantly decided NOT to hold a show in September 2021 this year.

We have negotiated with our hosts and furniture providers to 'Roll Over' our deposits for a further year, for a show in 2022.

So, though we are sad to announce that this year's show will not go ahead, we do look forward to hosting another show in 2022, when hopefully all the restrictions and safety considerations will be such, that we can welcome all of our great Traders and Exhibitors, and all the visitors that we have come to know.

We will endeavour to keep everybody informed of the latest news as it happens, so you can mark it in your diary for 2022.

Thankyou for your continued support.

Show Co-ordinator 2021

Continuing my current enjoyment with submarines I purchased this Hobbyboss kit for a really cheap price.
It is a more modern submarine of the Chinese Navy a Type 033 'Romeo' Class submarine, and comes with a SH-5 Patrol Aircraft as well.
Kit is moulded in Grey (Sub) and Clear (Aircraft) and comes with etch brass for both.
some pictures of the box contents for now.
