General Discussion / Re: Members List

Well, I didn't get there in the end did I?  A combination of factors, but I hope you all had a good time anyway.

If you click on members you get the whole list, and there I am all alone on page two.

On my computer machine you are at the bottom of page 2.  Either I have a larger screen than you or we have lost someone.

Anyway, the statistics have shamed me into trying to make more of an effort so as I have a couple of things on the go, I'll try and find time today to share them.  And I'll see you at the Play Day next week too  :D

Great stuff.  I should be in a better mood to enjoy this one.  I was a bit out of sorts last time and didn't stay as long as I would have liked.

Noted also.

Reminds me, there was a little series called (I think) Railway Model Challenge a few years back which I quite enjoyed.  I didn't quite see all the episodes so I'll try and find it lurking somewhere.  Anyone else see that one?

Ey up Bob,

looking forward to seeing this one.  I did a bit of time over there and those mucky white UN vehicles bring back some memories.  If there's a set of British troops diving for cover, you could recreate that famous scene when Bob Stewart's troops went on what was billed as a nice easy peacekeeping tour, came under fire and had to scarper!

General Discussion / Re: MODELS ON THE TABLE - SEPTEMBER 2021
« on: September 15, 2021, 06:28:44 PM »
Next time, I shall set off a bit earlier so I don't have to rush my tea.  Mind you, that fish and chip was very nice.  The meeting was well worth getting indigestion for  ;)

Would have been nice to have a bit more time to talk about the models on the table but understandably, there were some important announcements that had to take priority this time and considering we'd 18 month's worth of gossip to catch up on, we were quite succinct.  I hope not to have to scoop up my model and charge out of the door before the gavel has fallen next time too!  Late finishes and early starts are the Devil's business!  He's obviously not a modeller.

went to Beverley with DCOS.  She registered at East Riding College for her GSCE English course which she'll be completing alongside her University studies.  We then popped to the market and bought some sausage rolls and pork pies from the Rose Cottage stall which we last visited on Christmas Eve 2020 in Driffield.  That was also the last time I saw Andy (Councilman) as he was in his council rig tearing everything down at end of the market.

What about the rest of you - what did you do today?

General Discussion / Re: Inspiration, where do you get yours?

I get inspired by many things: - seeing others' models at meetings or in magazines is the main thing and as I move away from aircraft and become more interested in military vehicles and diorama building, I find myself becoming inspired by scenes in films or even my own experiences but that's quite dangerous as it plants seeds in my mind and it ends up with me having too many projects in my head and not enough on the table!

Yes, you can produce an endless variety of terrain styles by mixing lengths and colours.  I didn't buy any aerosol layering spray but use a spray bottle with diluted matt mod podge instead.  I do have a spray can of Halfords lacquer though so I may try that and see what happens.  A lot of people airbrush the grass too as well as mixing colours as I found out from watching videos on the you tube.

Good work Bob.  I'm looking forward to seeing the base you put this one on.

Nice work there Chris.  I think I have one of these, plus the Magister hidden away somewhere.  Also I have the xtradecal British non-combat types sheet too as the markings with the kits are well past their best - or where when I last looked.  They're probably even more well past their best now, whatever that would be!

I'm interested to see the 3d printed stuff.  To me it's no different than adding any other aftermarket parts to enhance the kit.  Did you print them yourself?

That's fabulous!  I love the way you can tackle any type of model and produce something amazing.  How are you finding the static grass application?  I love it, it add that finishing touch.

I now have a burning desire to find an old ZX Spectrum and waste the rest of my life playing Manic Miner!

I too enjoy the older kits with few parts.  Often just as much fun to build out of the box (whichever type of box it matters not to me  :D) as they are to add a bit of detail to.

I'm sure you'll do it proud whichever way you choose to go.
