General Discussion / Centurion Mk V 20 Pounder Type B gun
« on: May 09, 2022, 09:51:45 AM »
Hi All,

I am currently building the 1/35 scale AFV Centurion Mk V/1 MBT but as a Danish version.

I don't have a. lot of reference material but I know the Danish version I am trying to build had the Type B 20 Pounder gun and I am wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket metal barrel ?  AFV do the Type A gun as an aftermarket mod but I haven't been able to find a Type B gun.

Appreciate any help or advice on this.

Regards

Mike

Hi Everyone

I did tweak the number of preview images to set it to 5 but it isn't auto sizing them correctly for all browsers and devices so I can set this back to 4.  Its easy enough to change this value, the range being 1 to 5.  So whatever works best for the team.  Ill try 4 and see how we get on.

I have been doing some other tweaks in the background such as the security change and removing the image size limit on uploads.  Ill send some details to Bill for the newsletter so everyone can read about it.

Regards

The reason the canopy on the Jug is so good is a tip I learned many years ago from attending the club meets.  I think it might have been Kevin who suggested I dip the canopies into Future before doing anything with them.  This seams to keep them looking nice and clear and protects them from fogging with super glue etc.

Over the years I learnt a lot form the other club members.   :)

Its so nice to read all your kind comments.  Very appreciated and good motivation to get more done now.

I have very fond memories of club meets and trips so its great to see you all active on the forum, especially when we can't actually meet up in person.

The Lysander will get finished one of these days.  Its nearly done but I had a disaster with the canopy and some overspray so it got put on the shelf and forgotten about but now I have the motivation to tackle it again and get it finally finished.

Happy modelling to everyone during this time.  Stay safe.

Given the current circumstances I suddenly found myself with some spare time away from work so I decided to get a model built.  First one in many years.  This is my first attempt at an Alclad 2 finish.  I learnt a lot from this build and also how much I enjoy the hobby and have missed modelling.

Kit is the Tamiya 1/48 P47D and I used an Eduard photo etch set to add a little extra detail.

Attached are a few photos of the model plus a shot of the original aircraft for comparison.

I started building this kit a couple of years ago and got the cockpit complete then it sat in the box until last month when I decided to try and do something other than work.

Well, it was going really well until I removed the masking for the canopy.  Some dreaded overspray had managed to get under the masking and foam I had placed in the cockpit.   If I hadn't wanted to show more of the cockpit off and not removed the side panels it wouldn't have happened.

Anyway, "never give up" as the motto goes.  So after a few days of head scratching and failed attempts at making something to clean the canopy from the inside I decried it had to come off.  I managed to remove the canopy with hardly any damage but when I tried to clean it with Enamel thinners (It was Enamel paint that had got onto it) the canopy collapsed on me.  Too much thinners and ham fisted cleaning I guess.

So now I am really starting to get fed up with it.  But a quick search on the internet and Hannants have  vac formed canopy from Squadron for a 1/48 Lysander.  It was definitely cheaper than buying another Lysander kit just for the canopy.

I have the new canopy but I have never worked with vac formed clear canopies before so my request for help is any tips for working with it?  can I used clear fix to attach it? can I use any paint on it? etc etc

Any help will be most welcome

In case any of you may have been wondering what I have been up to lately as I don't get to many of the club meetings (sadly), I thought I would post a few pictures from a recent trip to New York.

I am always on the look out for museums and places to visit related to my modelling interests, especially submarines!!  So when I knew I was going to New York I did a quick search and found that the USS Intrepid museum compl;eye with the USS Growler submarine was going to be a must see.

Well its back to work for me but I do hope to see you all in the future.

If you are trying to upload photos using the Photo Gallery, it currently is disabled and doesn't work because of a technical problem.

The only way to get photos onto the web site at the moment is via the blog or as attachments to forum posts.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
