General Discussion / Re: MODELLING DAY (PLAYDAY 8) SUNDAY 20TH MARCH
« on: March 22, 2022, 04:21:15 PM »
Looks like another good day was had by all...
Sorry i missed it.

Yes, Chris, it looks like you were the only one doing any 'proper' modelling... although Tony looks 'deep into it' on a couple of shots too!

Will try to be at the next one...

Thanks for taking the photos Dave.

Oooops sorry,
I didn't get to p2 and 3 and now see that you're doing your Beaufighters as a SEAC machine.

Ignore everything I said about Coastal Command Beaufighters!!!

That'll teach me to read everything before I make comments, eh............

Hi Kevin,
I've got three 1/48 scale Beaufighters 'on the go' (as well as the Whirlwinds... it's like a WWII British Aircraft Factory in my model room at the moment!)
I've been researching Coastal Strike Beaufighters and depending upon what period and/or Squadron you're finishing your Beaufighter in, you may have to fit Mk III rocket rails (the later 'straight' rail type) with AP Mk II solid-shot warheads on your RPs.
Apparently the solid shot warheads were better at penetrating ships' sides under water...
(Tony – don't read that last bit as it'll only upset you, you being a ship modeller!)

The camouflage schemes were pretty tatty too with LOTS of weathered finishes, overpanting and different shades of paint!
You can paint the upper surfaces virtually ANY shade of dark and medium grey you want to!!!

The wheels look superb to me Dave.
Like Kevin, I'm astounded by your scratchbuilding skills...
... you're a proper modeller as opposed to a kit assembler.

I'm getting on with the Whirlwinds, (all three of them), and have got to the decal... sorry, transfer application stage!
Got to be careful here and model from a photo of the speciafic airframe I'm modelling as the blighters placed the fuselage roundels on slightly different positions from aircraft to aircraft!
I've already had to repaint the engine nacelles on all three as the upper surface camouflage demarcations also varied from airframe to airframe!

Having fun though!

General Discussion / Re: MODELS ON THE TABLE OCTOBER 2021

It was a good meeting on Wednesday evening, and thankfully everything ran smoothly...
... especially the tea & coffee break.
Thanks to Andy and John for doing the 'catering' honours.

Andy's 1/32 scale Lancaster was awesome!

There always looks to be more room in the Hall on photos than there seems to be in real life...

Looking forward to the 'Play Day' on the 24th!

A good turnout of members and models.
Really enjoyed being back at a Club meeting, even with all the ribald comments and friendly banter...!!!
Let's hope we can continue.

Good model Bill.
(A BIG improvement on the old, original FROG kit, eh!!??!!)
Certainly looks well weathered... as indeed the real ones were.
Similarities to its successor, the Beaufighter, are striking.
I wish someone would produce a Beaufort in 1/48 scale.
What's next from the Newton aircraft factory?

Regarding ‘Susannah Yorks’s body double’ with suspiciously pixelated lower portions!
How short IS her skirt!!??!!

WOW!
I can’t keep up with your phenomenal output!
You seem to make a new model every day!
You’re already on page 8 with your ‘Beside the Seaside’ diorama thread!
I hope you do manage to make it a permanent display in your model room(s)!!!! (Sandra notwithstanding!)

I don't know how you manage to work so quickly!
It looks wonderful.
Love the barn.

All you need to add now is Shaun the Sheep and some of his mates!

What is next on your modelling calendar?

Sorry, I haven't been on the website for a few days, but what a difference a (few) days make!!!
You're the diorama maestro Dave!
You'll be able to fill the 'Models on the Table' for months when we get back to having Club meetings again!
Excellent!
Biggles...
... or should that be Mind Boggling!

Hi Red Lancer,
The Luftwaffe was SO pleased they sidetracked the Italians to airfields in Belgium to try and keep them out of the way...
As you might have guessed they didn't do very well and suffered quite badly at the hands of RAF fighters...

Hi Red Lancer,
The Italian Corpo Aereo Italiano (CAI) – a task force sent by Mussolini to "help" the Luftwaffe in October/November 1940 had
Fiat BR.20s as their main bomber.
I foolishly decided that it would be good to build 'something different', but the kit isn't very good and is fighting me all the way, as some kits sometime do...

We're going to have some of the best stocked (and best kept!) airfield dioramas that have ever been modelled.

I even did a bit of modelling myself this afternoon...
... sanding down the join lines on a Specail Hobby Fiat BR.20...
... on the patio in the sunshine!

keep safe and keep modelling ya'll,

This is another diorama that I'm looking forward to seeing in real life.
Excellent Bill.
