I've gone back to the dark side again with this Esci SdKfz 251/8 Ambulance as an in-filler whilst the Humbrol RLM65 artex on the Do17Z fully cures!!!
I've built this kit in various other guises in the past and so knew some of it's shortcomings. The main one being the drive sprocket is really close to the mudguard, photo 2, so it's best to cut a couple of teeth off the front of it or you'll be forever breaking it off. Superglue is also recommended. The tracks, photo 3, don't come with any guide teeth and are the soft plastic kind!! So again it's superglue. In my youth I resorted to staples at one point!!
As it's the ambulance there are stretchers which I detailed with blankets, pillows and straps. Also missing is the attendants seat which I scratch built, photo 1. Due to the limitations in plastic moulding the stretchers and holders are on the thick side so even if fitted in the correct position (not shown in instructions clearly) then there isn't a lot of clearance.
As this is a model of the Ausf C I'm painting it as though originally Panzergrau over-sprayed with Dunkelgelb with camo to follow.

Revell seem to release kits with 'in operation' markings only for us to discover they're based on prototypes. I completed their 2007 release of the single seat Eurofighter and the panel lines didn't match the instructions which made decalling fun. If @8 hours is fun!! They also miss out items such as sensors etc. which aren't on the prototype but are on production a/c. The plus side is it turns from kit builders into modellers.

This is the 1/72nd Airfix kit. I'm building it to add to the BoB display. Online reviews/builds say the fit in the cockpit is tight and it is, see photos. Also the fit of the upper wing (working on that now) and the engines, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!!!

Some time ago I bought the ExtraTECH decal sheet for Major Wilhem Herget's plane whilst he served with II/NJG 3 as it had markings for all the campaigns he'd taken part in. I should have known better as the sheet dated from 1996. It shattered so i had to cobble some markings together.
The HobbyBoss kit had wrong/no internal details so these were scratch-built. Not 100% accurate but better than nothing. Photo 1 is the kit instructions, 2 is the added detail.

Hi, thanks for the update Kev/Martin. And to answer your query I've obviously looked at the website :p
I see Sword and Lance is cancelled but nothing re Northern yet.
I've still got to solve the problem of Adobe 6 not being compatible with my laptop so I can post the photos of my builds that I know you're all dying to see, lol.
Stay safe, happy modelling and try not to strangle the wife!!!
Chris
