Title: Thank you to the carpet monster
Post by: MSea on April 02, 2020, 10:07:09 AM
Yes thank you to the carpet monster - lost the small part in the first photo.
Spent ages looking on the carpet for the bit, ended up sorting and cleaning the workbench and eventually found it on the bench.. So a little bit more tidy in my room now.  HoHoHo but that is not what I have been saying

The dreaded carpet monster, don't forget that somewhere all the bits end up. There must be complete kits up there in the cosmos.

Never thought of that - seeing its all bits from different models the final one will look like one of mine - hohoho

I've probably got more parts embedded in my model room carpet that there are on the models I've made...!

Hi Biggles,
I think you must have got the special carpet brand....
Is it Axminster...?
No silly, its 'Airfixminster' with added interest.
Does it come in Red, Black and White?
Cheers,
Bigkev

My carpet monster "Revells" in all the bits I feed it!

I seem to remember a deep discussion with Tony and a few others about the blackhole/carpet monster and other such things.
It is the "bounce" of objects that never fails to amaze me. You know exactly where you dropped the bit but oddly it turns up in a different room? Trousers and superglue, bring back turnups, bits always went in them.

Sneeky little things

I usually find things by lying down on my side and looking along the surface of the floor.  As long as it's a short carpet and it's cleaned regularly, anything which shouldn't be there stands proud and is easy to spot - provided it's not bounced too far!

I considered getting an off-cut of lino for under my bench to try make things easier to find but I think that would just increase the bounce factor.

Yeah, how come dropped parts always bounce, or end up in a completely different area to that which they seemed to go!!??!!
I tend to use a mini torch to scan the carpet, a bit like CSI!

I've spent ages looking for things that I thought I'd dropped on the floor and then having given up, "found" them on my workbench!

Re Wizzel's suggestion, about regularly vacc'ing the carpet is sound advice... but there's always the danger of vacc'ing up parts  you might not have realised were there!

I often wondered whether placing my chair and bench in a kids paddling pool
with a few inches of water in it would do the trick.
Stuff won't bounce on water, just sink to the bottom.
Mrs Haddock convinced me not to bother!!.

Vacuuming? What's that?

Jewellery makers wear an apron the attaches to the bench and thus catches all the bits of silver and gold, maybe we could do the same.

Yes just spent half an hour looking for a piece over an inch long - not exactly small. After checking the carpet and the work bench, eventually found it stuck in the middle of the instruction sheet fully hidden.  Arrrrrg
