Title: 1/700 Missile Ships
Post by: zak on April 28, 2018, 01:03:57 PM
So, I thought Missiles - land sea and air.
Let me have a go at a missile ship.
You get two missile ships and two X boats.

Well the X boat proved quite easy - only 3 bits.
However the Missile ship may prove more of a challenge.

This 1/700 stuff is a bit small, my eyes and fingers hurt already.
Well here is my attempt at some etched brass - could do better, my school report always said that.

The clothes peg kind of puts things in perspective somewhat. I would certainly need some sort of magnification to work with that scale. I assume when you come to slap a bit of paint on it will be with a brush?

That's a good bit of 1/700 brass work - now you know why I work mainly in 1/350.

No, I will spray it with the required grey and they paint the details with a brush.

I changed the title so that I could add some other missile ships as and when - well like now.

This is the USS Mobile Bay, picked up very cheap from Mr Croppers Shop.

I have added some photo-etched rails.

The enlarged photos are very cruel.
Don't look too closely!

Hi Zak,
Don't be too critical, the pictures look really good.
A nice subject, finished with some flair.
Cheers,

Here we are on the sea, well my attempt at sea anyway.
I will now be able to put my tutorial from Tony to use on the next one.

I like it -- what did you use for the sea and what colour ???
At the possibility of being moderated by Kevein, I was looking at the pictures of your boat and the one I am working on and thought " mine is bigger than yours"

In the words of Tony B - I just sloshed some paint on the thin layer of DAS Clay and then added some gloss varnish (the colours were deep sea grey, blue and green).
Not up to Mr B's standard though.

The decals transfers just fell apart in the water - old I guess.

Here is another fairly cheap ship from the same stable, the USA built many variants on the same basic hull- 31 I think.
This is the U.S.S. Conolly ABL destroyer, the ABL means it had Armoured Box Launchers for the Tomahawk cruise missiles
Once again the decals/transfers fell apart but I managed to retrieve one or two for the ship's name and numbers, the rest were hand painted..

Now I know why it takes Tony a long time to build his ships.
I have just been building this radar  and it is made of 6 brass parts, very fiddly and not easy.
There are quite a few of these on this ship!

5p is the most I get to spend at any one time, this is one that I had hidden away just in case of emergencies.

Missile ships at the moment.
If you remember quite a lot of years ago I did the Falklands War, sold them all. Oh well.
I could get into ships, but I don't have Haddock's attention to detail or his level of patience- they are on my wish list.

very very good - but I still like the look of older types of ship, more at the turn of the century.

Hi Zak,
I like it, it looks futuristic.
Don't worry about Msea, he's about 100 years behind us at best of times.(snigger)
But at least Msea can acknowledge a very, very, good model, so he cannot be all bad.
Another item for the 'Missile SIG' I presume??
Keep at it.
Cheers,
Bigkev
