Hi All,
Well another of my incomplete models that I have decided to complete.
This is the Airfix Sopwith Pup in 1/72.
I decided to adopt a different approach for fixing the upperwing and filled the slots of the interplane struts to just leave the strut attachment points to attach to. I also did a little bit of work on the fuselage sides trying to replicate the cockpit ribbing.
So far, it is now painted and partially decalled, all coming from the spares box and using the Scalemates website to see the paint scheme and decal placement on the instruction sheets. Roundels came from two sets of Frog Swordfish decals, these being at least 30 years old!!
Need to touch in the rudder stripes, add a serial in the box on the fuselage, and the word 'Anzac' from Modeldecal lettering. Paintwise the struts need a flesh base before using Oil paint to streak and replicate the varnished wood. The wheels need painting. Assemble top wing to the rest of the airframe, add the wheels and then rigging the model.
Some pictures of my 'Pup' as is now:-

Very nice too,
Something different from you.
I may give up building biplanes!

Recently read an article stating that the top wing was straight and the bottom wing had dihedral bringing them closer at the tip than the body, not the reverse as in most kits. Something to check if you haven't already.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for that.

Here is a front elevation of a pup.

Hi Zak,
Thanks for the image.
Looking at the kit, it matches the view quite well.
Will be posting some pictures of the Pup soon as I have done a little bit more.
Thanks

Will it be rigged Kevin?
-
Yes, my mistake I had a (another) senior moment. What I said refers to the Camel not the Pup. Apologies.

Will it be rigged Kevin?
Hi Chris,
Yes I will be rigging it. Not sure what I am going to use to rig it at moment, maybe stretched sprue.

Hi All,
Well a little more progress with the Pup.
The top wing has been attached, and also the single machine gun.
I have painted and attached the main wheels, the tyres being a bit problematical as they have an indiscernible line between cover and tyre. I found that by using a very fine pencil line drawn around the rim of the cover gave me a guide to follow with a fine brush. Also the pencil line gives the impression of a sharp line if my painting is not so good.
I also decided to use stretched sprue rigging using PVA glue at the attachment points. The difficulty is making the sprue thin enough to handle, without it being too thick in appearance. I have opted to give a representation of the rigging, not a perfect in scale copy of the real thing. No double control wires, turnbuckles, etc.
So far I have got about 50% of the way there.

Looks very nice.

Good job on the rigging.
I now like the stretchy stuff.

At this rate there'll be no excuse for me not rigging biplanes!!!!
-
Looking very good Kevin. Soon everyone will be rigging everything!

Hi All,
Declaring this one as finished.
All rigged with stretched sprue, as far as I wanted to go. Finally a coat of Matt Varnish to blend everything together.
Some pictures of finished item.

Nice, just what we've come to expect.
Haddock.

Looks great with the scenic backdrop.
(note to self -use a scenic backdrop for the finished photo) It really sets your model off.

Excellent work Kevin. The strtched sprue for the rigging worked well. I bet it took a while.
