Started this on playday or whatever we call it now (load of old fogies sticking plastic together).
I didn't intend to go so far but the plastic is very nicely moulded and, with care, it just falls together.
As usual, there are some errors which are easy to put right when you know what they are, there are
quite a few images on t'internet if you are prepared to look. What is bugging me is that the kit depicts
the bridge perched on a number of pillars with a clear space between the bridge deck and the foredeck.
The box art shows the bridge atop a deckhouse and surrounded by a numberof pillars which seems more sensible to me.
How would you connect with the rest of the ship through the space? I'm looking for something that confirms my suspicions so I can
scratch build something which is, hopefully, correct.
The framework that supports the flight deck will be replaced with etched brass. I expect it to take considerably
longer than the plastic item, the result of an afternoons work.
It's going back in the box for a while so I can carry on with Szent Istvan .
Watch this space for now.

The brass etch will keep you happy for an hour or two - hohohoho
-
You can see how I think the bridge structure should be constructed in this pic.

Have fun!
-
That's what it's all about although sometimes I have to remind myself that that's the case.

-
Yep, have fun. It looks like a nice start Mr Haddock.

Solved my bridge problem, if I'm wrong, who will know? Non of the images I can find show daylight beneath the whole
of the bridge.
First pic shows all the "stilts/support pillars" that the bridge would sit on , I've removed some surface detail and made a
rectangular thingy for the bridge to sit on. There wil still a number of pillars fitted, probably a dozen, a few portholes and a couple
of watertight doors just to tart it up a bit.
The pictures probably speak for themselves.
Not much is glued in place, just held with a temporary adhesive so I can strip it down for painting.

Looks very like the picture, so all seems good.
-
now that a proper ship, it has aircraft, looking good.

The detail is looking good.

Some progress made. I've corrected some errors and moved some of the ships boars around a bit
to look more like some of the photo's I've found on t'internet.I've added some bits and bobs out of
the spares box for a busier look.
Paint sloshed on, what you see is stuck together.
The pictures probably speak for themselves.

Keep sloshing it on.

Looking like a very nice model.

Bit more stuff added. Sorry about the blurred pictures, I'll try harder.

That's a bit better.

Got your eyes in focus now.
Much better.
-
I think it's my brain that needs attention!!
-
Very nice detail indeed.
-
There's some great detail in there.
-
Stunning work Mr. Haddock.
-
Bridge and some more bits and bobs added to the foredeck.

Hi Haddock,
Nice work. It really brings it home to me when I see your builds, just how complicated and involved the art of ship design is/was.
Seeing it in sections, and growing up to the final bit is enlightening.
Cheers,

Exquisite Mr Haddock.
-
You're all very kind (should've gone to spec-savers!).
Some railings and ladders added.
Haddock.
-
Lovely, its looking really busy.
-
Excellent as always

Smashing! Ready for the high seas soon.

Long way to go yet I'm afraid.
-
Very impressive all the same Tony.
-
Bit done to the foredeck, some railings added.
I've been messing around with the flight deck. I painted it to Trumpy's reccomended colour, it looke horrible, tried lightening it and gave it a wash to pick out the planks, it still looked horrible.
During WW2, all US carriers had their wood decks stained dark blue, as it was a stain and not paint, the colour could be quite different from ship to ship. I stripped the paint and started again, gave it a wash and added the off-white stripes which were supplied as transferes ,I prefered to paint 'em. I think what I've ended up with is probably somewhere near the real thing, who knows, I haven't been able to findany colour images of the ship, only monochrome stuff. I've added a few which I've been using as reference material.
It's becoming pretty obvious that unless you kneel on the floor with your nose resting on the table, probably wearing a head-torch,you're not going to see much of what's going on beneath the flight deck.

Are you modelling the one with all the aircraft on?
-
Are you modelling the one with all the aircraft on?
That's the plan although aircraft in 1:350 are'nt my favourite occupation, I may have to employ more staff.

Oh Goody!
Haddock coming into the light!

Don't be tempted Haddock STAY with the dark side - Kevin's way only leads to trouble - hohohhooho
-
Very impressive Tony. Get Dave to do you some aircraft - they'll be ready by teatime.
-
Now the fun starts. If the brass looks a bit wonky, i'ts because it's not finally bent and glued, just testing fits.
As usual, it don't fit but I think it can de made to by modifying the plastic, not the easiest thing to do at this
stage of the proceedings. I all else fails, I can hold my head in shame and resort to the plastic items which do fit,
all credit to Trumpy.
This could take some time.
Haddock.
-
Wow, they look great. Never mind the fact they are wonky at the moment.
A little while in the 'Ands of Haddock' will have them sorted.
Great stuff, keep the build coming, I love it!

The brasswork is looking amazing at the moment. I'm sure you'll do it justice Tony.
-
So we're about ready to fit the flight deck. There's been a lot of trimming and fiddling to get to this stage.
It probably won't stand close examination but a lot will be unseen when the deck is in place.
Onwards and upwards.
Haddock.

Impressive work.

I agree,
And in the words of the late 'Bernard Matthews'....... BOOTIFUL!

looking great so far.

Deck fitted with lift in down position.
The object in the foreground is a thing on purpose to
allow me to work on the underside.
Haddock.
-
The detail is fantastic Tony. Definitely a great model.
-
After much deliberation, I've decided NOT to fit the safety nets, the way they are etched means they'll
stand out like a sore thumb, not the effect I'm after so this is it to date.
When it's mounted on a base with some sea around it I may fit a multitude of aircraft(yet to build),
till then that's it.
Haddock.
-
Nets or no nets it looks great - will look even better when its in the sea
-
Amazing detail Tony.
-
Great Tony, I am all a quiver waiting for the aircraft!
-
Another fantastic build. Can't wait to see all the 'yellow wings' on the deck.

It could be a long wait
