Hi All,
Not a new project but one of those 'unfinished' ones that were on the shelf of doom.
I need to do some repair on the panel lines that I attempted to scribe at the start of the build, the paintwork, needs attention and the radome needs repainting, the undersides painting, all detail parts to add then decals, simples............er, maybe not so.
We will see.
Some pictures of model to date.

I have vague memories of this in the distant past.

A glossy plastic there Kevin. I'll look forward to this unusual beastie.

I fancied getting the Takom kit with the missile launchers, I definitely couldn't warrant/justify the cost of the Anigrand one, so will look forward to seeing this completed.

Hi All,
Well a little more done. Firstly I cleaned up the wonky scribing on some panel lines. I used some superglue 'painted' over the offending area, then sanded this back until smooth and matching the airframe. Then I used some Dymo tape cut into short lengths, aligned the edge with the panel line to be reinstated and burnished it down. Then I took a new scalpel blade and run it lightly along the line I wanted to rescribe. This helped provide a guide for the scribing tool which was drawn along the Dymo tape until it matched the existing panel lines. Remove the Dymo tape, and paint thin Tamiya liquid glue along the line to remove any swarf. Final polish with 1200 grade and done.
I then airbrushed the areas with the Ghost Grey I used before. The panel lines are there, but are not prominent at moment as there is no wash in these places at moment.
Next, I masked the model undersides using a mix of Tamiya Tape, Tamiya flexible white tape, paper, and a poly food bag over the tail/rear fuselage. I painted the underside of the main wing, fuselage, planing bottom in a very dark green, in this case IJN Green by Tamiya.
Tape then removed to reveal nice crisp finish, happy days.
Next the engine inlet warning edges, and nose radome.

Your certainly getting back into this one.

Looks like a labour of love Kevin. Looking very nice and the panels lines look good.

Hi All,
A little more progress now.
have painted the engine intakes and the wheels. The canopy was dipped in 'Kleer' then strips of painted decal strip used to make the canopy frames, then once dry overcoated with 'Kleer' again. Turret attached as are the engine pipes/exhausts, the 'MAD' array at rear.
Props painted and attached.
Note the outline drawing of the fuselage, this done before assembly and ariels that could be knocked off were removed at start of build. These will be replaced by thinner items from plastic card.
Think next post will see it completed.
Some pictures of state of play.

Hi All,
Thanks for the comments.
Just an update, I have now applied the decals. These were quite thick and needed careful handling to minimise any silvering. I have used micro set and micro sol to help with application. Once fully dry I will inspect and may need further use of Daco decal soloution as these are in normal, medium, and strong strengths depending how the decals behave (or not!).
Some pictures of the beast now.

Splendid paint job!

Looks very nice Kevin. A great job.

Hi All,
The decals needed two further applications of 'Daco Strong', together with some judicial slicing, pricking of the decals.
Some small touch up of the paint required here and there, followed by some gentle weathering, some arieals to be added, and finalling a final varnish to seal everything in and tone down the 'glossy' paintwork.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Certainly looks the part, well done Kev.

Thanks all for your kind comments.
Well this one is now finished, with the smaller details added, paintwork touched up, aerials from Plasticard.
Streaks of grime, water stains were added using Oil paints in small dots where required and then feathered into the paintwork as required/direction
A final coat of Matt/Satin mix of Vallejo water based varnish brought everything together, giving a nice 'eggshell' sheen to the model which I think is much better than a flat or overly gloss finish.
