This is the left-over He 162 from the Revell (Dragon re-box) of the Mistel 5, He 162 A-2 and Arado E 377a. If you remember I used my old original Airfix kit of the He 162, which was re-worked, as the upper component.
The design team at Heinkel looked at using a butterfly tail for the 162 and I had a resin one in stock so decided to use that. There is a profile of an A series plane with the butterfly tail in the Wydawnictwo 'Militaria' book on the 162 so it allowed me to use it without having to make the forward swept wings of the proposed C variant.
This model has sat on the shelf for a couple of years before I've returned to it. A piece of plastic sheet was placed in the gap at the tail and carved/sanded to shape. The second photo shows the cockpit as it was when I put the model down.

That will give me lots of time then Chris, now that we're in Tier 3 :(
The undercarriage is made up from 7 delicate pieces and needs careful cleaning and positioning. The part of the fuselage across the bay has to be cut from the doors and again care is needed. The tailplanes have been postioned and are in the process of being blended in. As the engine bay will be positioned open I spent some time painting and weathering the engine.

It's in the paintshop at the moment so not a lot to look at. I've used the time to look through my decal stash for markings.

Back from the paintshop with most of the touching up done. Engine and wheels fitted, next job will be a coat of Klear followed by decalling.

Hi Chris,
Nice to see the differing 'greens' on the wings as per the construction process at the late stage of the war.
Looks a nice paint job too.

HI Chris,
Heinkel were consistent pioneers and innovators much over looked in modelling terms until recently. I look forward to seeing this one finished. I have the Dragon He162D in the stash that is destined to join my other Heinkel jets.

Yes Andy this one did, the same seat as in the He 219.

Decalling finished and all the small bits added before weathering. I found that even though this is a Dragon kit care has to be taken when fitting parts and what I think is a negative is the way the canopy parts are attached to the sprue tree. The connection is big and so to clean them up properly you could lose part of the framework if care isn't taken, I did as much as I dare.
I'm dedicating this model to our family pet who we lost on January 2nd after 11 1/2 years. He was a great dog and as soon as I can source a decal for 'Max' I'll add that.
