This is going to be an SH-60F Ocean Hawk using the Hawkeye Models conversion kit. I'll be using a Hasegawa SH-60B for the donor kit.
-
Rotor blades modified (angled cut of blade at the hub end) and rotor hub assembled.
Fuselage halves modified - chin dome removed, esm antennas removed and area filled.
-
You have been busy.

Hi Chris,
Another CW lesson in helicopter modelling.
Staying tuned in.......

Horror of horrors.
Just got onto adding the glazing to find the the glazing sprue in the kit is the incorrect one. It must have been for a similar model as two or three parts look ok, but the glazing for the cockpit doors and the parts on the sides of the nose are too small. Retrieved parts from an Italeri kit which are the correct size.
Next job is to make some moulds from the good parts in readiness for a delivery of some clear casting resin - hopefully in a few days time.
First time I've encountered a wrong sprue; I suppose I should have been wary when the part numbers didn't correlate.

The joys of modelling, can't you contact them for the corrext parts?

Thought about it but as the kit is Japanese and I did buy it some time ago I thought might be a bit difficult and take longer probably.

Fuselage largely done. No cockpit glazing yet.
-
Progressing a little with the glazing. Remoulded the fuselage side windows and cockpit side winows - now all mounted and polished. Results not bad. More glazing to be done yet.
-
coming along nicely Chris.

Great work.

Very slowly.

Nice to watch the progress.

Slowly, slowly catches the Monkey?
Great stuff whatever the speed.

New mouldings of the cockpit glazing fitted. Now ready for filling, clean up and polishing.
-
Hi Chris,
Your tenacity and attention to detail is great.
Watching the progress of this build with interest.
Cheers,
Kevin

It’s coming along nicely.

Good to see the pilots in the cockpit Chris.
Well done.

Well done.
Yes I had to file their helmets down a bit for them to fit; at least that won't be apparent when finished.
-
Some polishing underway. The port roof window has been sanded with emery paper about 1000 grit. The starboard roof window had been sanded with the same then polished with microfine Yorkshire Grit. More work to do.
-
Final polish done with Turtle Wax polish.
Ready for masking now.
-
First shade of grey on.
-
Does Turtle Wax give the same finish as a coat of Klear after sanding?

No idea if it gives the same effect. The polishing gives a good shine but there is no residue - the Turtle wax is a very fine abraisive. I think the floor polish leaves a thin coat on the surface - correct me if I'm wrong.
-
More shades of gray Chris.

Yep!
-
Yes Klear coats and 'microfills' minute scratches. I've used toothpaste before as an abrasive but didn't know about Turtle Wax, thanks.

I use polyWatch from Stark Industries, a German company or Greygate Plastic Polish to enhance clear parts.
Greygate Polish for most clear parts of Airfix and Japanese kits. While Greygate will improve Revell and Eastern European kits clear parts polyWatch polish seems to give and even clearer finish on these kits.
The canopy of the Special Hobby He 178 V-1 below was polished with polyWatch.
-
I use green wash and dust as most of my planes are in the scrap yard - hohoho - you all know I don't do pristine finishes.

Yes. More rubbish again!

Wow! That looks superb!
-
I use Deluxe 'Looks like Glass' to give a similar effect.
-
Here it is complete. Not bad; the decals are a little on the thick side - don't look too closely.
The mouldings of the glazing heve not turned out too badly - acceptable.
-
It looks good in the pictures here.
-
If I had made it I would be very very very happy - don't know what you see wrong with it.
-
Thanks for the comments.

Hi Chris,
A very good build. You are 'the man' to go to about helicopters.
Nice work once again.
Cheers,
