Title: 1/56 Models
Post by: zak on November 10, 2020, 08:43:55 PM
You have already seen the first, a Panzer II.
Here it is with some figures.
This is Bolt Action, from Warlord Games.

In the set you get 6 frets each with 6 soldiers bodies, to these you add different arms, legs and weapons and packs. So a total of 36 altogether.
So here are all thirty six, all slightly different.

Then a closer up view of a dozen of them.

You can tell they are wargaming figures, they are all squat and kind if well built.  I really like the look of them and it makes me want to wargame again.... not another hobby!!
Great paint job Zak.

Here is the Panzer III Ausf J (early), coat of clear and  transfers /decals / stickers applied.
The wheels are all in one, not two wheels as it really should be. I guess for wargaming, models need to be more robust.
Still to pin wash, highlight, weather, matt varnish and a light dust with weathering powder. Not neccesarily in that order!
Title: Re: 1/56 Models
Post by: zak on November 15, 2020, 10:09:46 AM
I forgot to say this is a plastic kit, as was the Flak 37.
Most of the figures were plastic.

The Flak 37, heavy machine gun and mortar crews were white metal.
I think for figures, white metal gives better definition and slimmer figures!

A second Panzer III, this is a late version J - longer barrel.

Hi Zak,
Nice looking model.
Did you use the hairdryer to help the decals to conform, or was it to aid drying of the paint.

Both, and to evaporate the thinners from the pin wash. I used burnt umber for this rather than black oil paint.

Continuing with this scale.
This is a BMW motorcycle combination from Rubicon Models.
It says use ABS cement, after a trial on some scrap. Tamiya thin works well as does EMA Plastic Weld.
On line suggests Tamiya or superglue.

Here are the enemy, I have been messing with these while battling with the 1:35 Panzer IV.

Warlord Games - Bolt Action - 8th Army, a couple of Universal (Bren) Carriers and crew.
One is a MKI, the other a MkII.

The vehicles are plastic kits, the crew are a mixture of plastic and white metal.

They still need some weathering applied.

The figures are white metal for the machine gun and mortar crew, they are one piece, the plastic ones have 5 or 6 pieces. The machine gun is two parts white metal and so is the mortar.

Here are some more 1/56, though technically they would be described as 28mm figures.
These are from Warlord Games, under the Banner of "Black Powder".
They are white metal and have 2 or so parts per figues -heads and flags really.
The Flags were home made and this is the 15 Regiment of Foot, also known as The East Yorkshire Regiment. The regiment was originally formed in 1685.
They served in the West Indies during the Napoleonic Wars. They were involved with the invasion of Martinique and Guadeloupe against the French.

It seems that whenever I struggle to model, I revert to painting soldiers, I last did some of these in 2010 and then sold them, they were from Victrix.
