As a lot of you know I come to this hobby from the history side of life, not like some of you who came out of the womb with a scalpel in one hand and super glue in the other. So at the moment I am back enjoying doing figure models of historical soldiers.
The Samurai and the Praetorian are new 1/16 scale MiniArt figures and the Hussar was an old white metal Post Militaire that had no work done on it at all.
The Agincourt archer was from 30/40 years ago and just had the hands and face to do as well as the base. Looking around in the loft found some more figures from when I was at sea, the knight is white metal ( no idea who or what company ) and just has the helmet and morning glory to finish ( that is if I can find the bit of the weapon that is missing. )
Before Haddock gives me hell , I am still doing my ship models but at a reduced rate, to fit in finishing some of the figure models.
Looks like you will have a lot to bring on Wednesday.

Looks like you will have a lot to bring on Wednesday.
Just a lot of trouble and aggravation for you lot -- I may even bring a model figure.
Found the head of the morning glory but the chain is just a LUMP of white metal, so have removed this and replaced with chain ( 17 links per inch before Haddock asks ) will now prime this and then add it to the wooden handle.
Hate to point it out but the arrow is the wrong side of the bow on the archer!
Haddock.
Sorry Haddock but he is only an apprentice and does not know what he is doing - hohoho
Next one to finish off - again no idea who or what he is.
Just for Haddock - at least the archer has the arrow the correct way round -- pointy end away from the body - at least that is the way i hope it should be.
Morning glory finished and added to the handle.
Next model from the loft - a Chas Stadden 75mm Rifleman of the 95th. Just the rifle and a few bits and bobs to finish off -- don't ask why they were never finished, I have no idea.
Bits finished now back to the yellow shades on the knight.
Packing trunk required to get all your models to the meeting.
Was thinking about sorting out Pickfords to deliver them all -- just joking will just bring 2.
Just like a magician in reverse, instead of cutting the lady in half, now its fitting the 2 half of the knight into one.
Last bit added to the figure
Good (K)night!

and good night to you - just back from the Malvern show, didn't see Haddock, he must have hidden from me - I can't think why ?????
Next model to join the MSea Army - another 1/16 scale MiniArt figure of an Athenian Hoplite.
So who does the face remind you of?

So who does the face remind you of?
Stern face, beard, vacant expression -- no idea and I am
NOT making any suggestions, I will leave that up to you.
Will he have a bit of a "glow" about him when done?
Haddock.

Haddock.
I am only doing the face
NO other parts of his anatomy.
Oh dear, what a level to fall to.
Legs , body, helmet and head fastened together.
Now that is quick growing hair - wonder if any club members would like the formula for that.
Spear head and butt-spike removed from plastic rod and this replaced with brass bar. Last photo is the start of the leather thong used to give extra grip on the rod.
Top of the helmet crest looks a bit on the flat side so messed (that's more technical words for Zak ) it up a bit with a hot needle.
Will anybody notice, will anybody care - the top section has had the pteruges cut and sanded so they are in 5 separate sections, the bottom one is still in one solid bit of plastic.

Hi Msea,
Looking really good.
Cutting and sanding the pteruges is a bit like an aircraft modeller putting a detailed interior into an aircraft, then close it all up never to be seen again.
But, YOU know its in there, same with these, only those who read this thread will probably know or can see what you have done, but YOU know you did it, and hopefully gain satisfaction from making it a more realistic model.
Very nice, look forward to the finished article.
Cheers,
Bigkev
Leather grip thong finished on the spear.
Some colour on the bits and bobs
Some colour on the helmet crest
A leather thong, whatever next.
As long as NO club member offers to model it we will be OK
Quote from: MSea on May 30, 2019, 02:45:29 PM
Some colour on the helmet crest
Wow, rule Britannia.
Haddock.
Block colour added to the face and hair, next some shading.
More bits added
A lot of material removed so the bronze corslet will sit correctly.
Some more work done on the head
Evil looking so and so.
Now who do YOU think he looks like ??????

Now who do YOU think he looks like ??????
I think that I will just keep quiet.
That's not like you - to be quiet that is, not the face, before you take it the wrong way.
Head and body all fastened together and some more work done on the shield.
More work on the shield
He is now armed but still armless.
Helmet and crest tail fitted.
Decal/transfer (take your pick ) now fitted to the shield - must get a new bottle of decal fix.
Athens city council have now brought in the builders and they will start on the wall next.
Wall up - how long before it falls down I will leave to Zak to say.
Some ground cover added in front of the wall. When the wall is painted will add some dry grass and flowers to the ground cover.

Fruit and veg as well please!
What type would you like ??????
Dark colour on the wall and extra blocks. When dry will dry brush with lighter grey. Then some builders tools to make. such as hammer chisel etc.
Tools made for the wall builders.
New model started at the club day out at Cass Hall.
Its another Mini Art figure of a 17cent Dutch Musketeer, compared to the other MiniArt figures this one has a lot of flash. The second photo is of the parts fitted together during the day.
Body dry fitted in the base - won't bother with ALL the armless jokes.

But there's no Harm in them is there?
On the other hand - hohoho -- fastened the extra blocks, tools and some grass onto the base.
Body and trousers blocked in for the Musketeer
Sword hilt has a lot of flash to remove - both powder flasks have been cleaned up and ready for priming.
Back of the Hoplite shield now finished.
More work on the musketeers bits and bobs.
New hat for the musketeer -- I think it would suit Zak but who is going to tell him !!!
If you don't mind can I volunteer YOU!
I think Zak would look very fetching and THREATENING as Treasurer wearing that. No late subs for sure if he wore that!
Bigkev
The new member of the MSea Army - I know when he has joined - that is 3627AD during the "Great Xanthine Wars", but what is he called. The list is Billiphant Warrior, Bobiphant Warrior, Keviphant Warrior, Neiliphant Warrior or Zakiphant Warrior.
The FIRST to e-mail with one name from the list will have the pleasure of naming him.
Before Haddock gets on to me, I will be working on the Russian Battleship Orel on Thursday - so don't shout at me Haddock.
The unnamed "Great Xanthine Wars" warrior has now had some basic block colour and also a start made on the base.
Looks like magic mushrooms are in season again!!
No mushrooms Haddock but some work done on the body armour --- with gunmetal blue panels over the basic intense blue background colour. Now on to work on the mast for the Orel.
Yippee!!
Base drybrushed and fastened to wood block -- now on to soldering the Orel mast - so we will have a happy Haddock.
Hi Msea,
Zany or What!
But, quite creative and definitely different.
Possibly not the Mushrooms in your area, but what about those plants in your loft??
Keep the thread going, you might even get somebody else creating their own army!
Cheers,
Bigkev
Dry run of the figure on the base.
Some more work done on the figure - now back to working on the Orel masts.
more work done on figure and shield
Hi Msea,
Lovely brush strokes on your figure...
Looking forward to its completion,....
Cheers,

The elephant decoration on the shield staff top now painted.

Arms and tusks now added.
I can't be blamed - well I don't think I can !!!!!!
Nobody came back with a choice of names from the list so I let "she who must be obeyed" choose - and she thought a Zaciphant sounded the best - so sorry Zak but you should have dropped one of the others in it, now its your turn.
Left arm and shield added.
Very nice.

It will still be your fault.
I will extract revenge at some stage.
Now why do I get a feeling of impending DOOM !!!!!!
Body added to the legs and some work on the shoulder fringes.
He now has arms and a head - when the head is solid he will grow some instant hair - - hohoho
Hair and helmet added to figure. Also a start made on a cannon to go in the background with some defensive works.
After looking up Dutch history have decided to place him at the battle of Maastricht in 1673 - that should raise a few eyebrows from those who follow history/politics !!!! just need a blue flag with some stars on it .
Carriage made for the cannon and trunnion bars and firing touch hole added.

I would say it "good clean living" but expect that would get me into trouble.
A ring cut from a cardboard tube and some tooth picks and hey ho we have a wheel -- not up to Zaks standard but good enough for me.
I like your style, very good.
You can buy stuff like this in London!
With great trepidation I ask the question "what stuff in London " have you been buying ??????
Some colour on the cannon and wheels
Next job to cut and fit some metal reinforcing parts to the wheels and carriage.
Cannons to the right and cannons to the left..........................
I know YOU are old enough to remember the First World War but I didn't think you went back as far as the Crimean War did you see the Charge of the Light Brigade in 1854 ???????
The Light Brigade charge a lot.
The bills are very expensive.
I expect that means I will pay a LOT for my comment ?????
Trial run for figure and cannon on base - will wait till he has his gun fitted before starting on the base, in case he needs a little bit more room.
A start made on the 3 wicker defense works - look like they will take a long time to make.
You could be a basket case by the time they're done.
Haddock

Haddock
What do you mean could be?
I am -- and only 3/4 of the first one done !!!!!
Get weaving then!
To make you all laugh ( I think some of us need a change of topic )
As I was doing the weaving used drops of superglue to hold the wire in place - had run out of thick glue so used thin - all OK. Never thought that some of the glue would run down the inside of the wire and fasten it to the wood base, its now good and fast so will have to cut/drill/hack the wood from the wicker basket when finished.
REMINDER TO SELF MUST GET SOME THICK SUPERGLUE
The joys of modelling - Ho Ho.
We live and learn.
The wicker front now done - wire ends to be cut to length when its all solid.
Next problem "she who must be obeyed" thinks it look lovely the colours that it is. Have explained that at the battle of Maastricht in 1673 it would be all brown as it is made from tree branches.
She still likes the colours, so now I will have to make a different model with this type of wicker in, to stay on the good side - the things we do !!!! Any ideas for this new model ??????
The 3 stages of making the wicker baskets.
Wicker baskets coming along and a trial with them in place alongside the figure
Day out in Brid and called into Mighty Lancer - decided that this Reaper "Yeti Chieftain should come home and join the "Great Xanthine Wars" of the year 3627 alongside the Zaciphant.
Zak has had one named after him so this one will be called a "Neiligrunt" -- now what colour are Neil's eyes - hohoho
Nice simple paint job with NO messing about converting and making the background, he will be like the Zaciphant just stood on a rock.
Now only Tony,Bill,Bob,Andy and Kevin to do
Base removed and hole drilled for a pin. Face looks like Neil so no changes to make , cleaning up the seam and noticed that the head and arm need some filler were they have been fasten to the body. Also the skull on the right arm has a strap on the front but nothing on the side or back so out with the thin strapping.
First coat of Brown Rose on the head and hands and Dark Seagreen on the fur.
Also found that the strap for the skull on the right arm has been added to the figure at the back and then some hair flopped over most of it - so I was wrong ( yes Zak as usual, before you say it ) so don't have to add this.
It is starting to look like Neil - but the camera never lies so its back to the paint job for the right eye
Quote from: MSea on October 16, 2019, 02:02:30 PM

I dread to think what you will come up to represent me...?
Bigkev
Some work on the toe nails and also a dry brushing of light grey on the fur
An artistic flair with the paint Job!
Bigkev
Sorry Martin, your imagination is failing, it looks far too much like Neil!
I am saying nothing - will leave that up to you to get into trouble - I am a reformed character and never upset people or get into trouble myself --hohohoho

Wood base and rock made for the Neiligrunt. When its dry will give a light drybrushing and then fasten all 3 bits together.
Then next time I am in Brid will pop into Mighty Lancer to get another one of the set --- and WHO will this one be Kevin / Bill / Bob / or Haddock
Neil standing proud and loud - hohoho
Sword and gun now added to the figure.
Figure added to the base
After a trip to Brid got this at Mighty Lancer - it will be another warrior from the Great Xanthine Wars in the year 3627.
Seeing as it is a very large brain, it will be a model of Tony from the club committee -- now what shall I call it ?????????
Just thinking - thats Dave,Neil, Tony done only Kevin, Bill, Bob and me to do !!!!!

All parts fastened together

How many clips round the head do you think I will get from Tony when he is next at the meeting ?????????
Just had a trip to Brid and have got another 2 models from Mighty Lancer to make, of the club committee members.
First is a "Bobabash Warrior" - sorry Bob. Second is for Kevin but have not decided on a name YET - hohoho.
That just leaves Bill and myself to do in the future - and Andy just in case you thought you had got away with it. but have not seen any with a yellow high vis jacket at the moment.
Hi Msea,
Keeping my head down......!
Will look from behind the sofa, its probably gonna be scary!
Bigkev
Coat of paint on the Bobabash - sorry if yellow is not your colour Bob, but am trying the Game Colour paints I got from Haddock. It was either yellow, red or grey so decided its a nice sunshine Bob with a big club - that I think might end up on my head - hohoho
More paint on Bob

I have at last found a model of me to do, to add to the committee members, it has taken a while to be able to find one as handsome, etc ( fill in your own words YoHoHo )
Will pick it up from Nathan at the end of next week when I go to Brid, so you now have something to look forward to - I think that is the words i am looking for, but am sure Zak will furnish us with some others. As this will be a blast from the past will also go back to my roots and try some oil paints on it.

Should have kept quiet Chris!
We have just had a great day out in Brid in the sunshine and called into Mighty Lancer and got the model of me to make - a couple of photos to give you a first look - hohohoho
Before you get any ideas about having some time to laugh at others Chris - could not find one for Andy or Bill but found one for YOU hohohoho
I have the name sorted out , it will be called " Fritz von Hansell un Gretel " bet you are very very very happy about that ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
So it looks as if Martin has just stepped off the Black Pearl.
Its even worse than that Chris just wait till you see the full model. Also when I was in Brid tried to get a model with some link to a helo but could only find one with a chopper - hohohho
Lots of air bubbles in the resin.
Think it is bullet or moth holes - hohohohho
Will bring all 3 models to Playday on Sunday but they are, me as a handsome pirate, Chris H as a fighting robot and Chris W with a large chopper.

The holes in the hat and eye and mouth filled in with black. The bottle in the hat has now also had some letters added to say RUM - when dry will rub them down a little to thin them.
Very rum indeed!
I will drink to that - YoHoHo
I thought the base was a shirt, it looks like one he's worn to the Club!!!
Very fine work there Martin.
Some work done on Playday 6 - first is the 6 pictures coloured in to sort out what colour to do the jacket, decided to do it dark blue.
The second photo is all 3 models primed- they are Vice-Admiral MSea , Fritz von Hansell un Gretell , and Helichopper Wilsooon
Hmmmm...
The mouth and eyes have now had a coat of German Yellow as the flesh of the pumpkin, when dry will either start on the orange outer skin OR make a start on one of the 2 Chris models - hohohoho

Some work done on Fritz von Hansell un Gretell -- a coat of black brown on the undergarments and then some natural steel on the armour.
He's going to be formidable.
Arms and head added to the model and a title made for the wood base.
An excellent figure.
Could this be the Monster Mash!
Hi Msea,

Most of the areas block coloured with vallejo paint and will next try and do the model in oils - this is the time for you to look away Howard and start sorting out the comments for when you see it - hohohoho

Bright colours Martin! How about the shirt?
Good to see the D. A bit like my school reports, lol!!! Tracy knows that I'm bionic since my op!!
it's looking good.

Hi all who are on the web site - you can have some rest from me for a while.
At the moment I am doing up my model room and have got to the stage when all my models and paint are going away until the room is finished. At the moment books removed and taking down book shelf and painting the walls, then new flooring and furniture - then back to finishing off the models under construction.
hi Msea,
Are you going to paint the walls in nice bright Hawaiian Shirt type decor?
That way Joyce won't spot you when she pops into the modelling room.
Get back to modelling soon........
Bigkev
Will do but after the last 3 days i am on my knees with all the work- but it will be worth it in the end.
Good luck Martin.
More remedial work to be done - on figures damaged when packed away for the room renovation. The Dutch musketer has lost his head but the hussar has only lost part of his hair style
Will you be turning up in the 'Queen of Hearts' outfit at next Playday??
Shades of 'Off with his head'
Bigkev
Sounds OK to me - hohoho
Decided not to use oils but try the Vallejo retarder medium - so lace collar and hat now painted , see how it looks when dry. Then on with the coat and face.
Very life-like.
Thank you Chris - just you wait ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
More finishing of work from a while ago - Fritz now has had his Flory wash ;) ;) ;) ;)
Quote from: MSea on September 22, 2022, 04:16:05 PM
Thank you Chris - just you wait ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
You didn't have to wait long did you Chris - so its on with your figure - yohohoho
Its amazing what I have found while sorting out my room ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Oh thanks!🤩🤩🤩
Just wait till I have finished the nice RED eyes - yohohohoho ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Some shading done on the blue and the orange, also the skull on the hat has been changed from orange to gold.
Some shading on Chris Wilsoon - now what colour should his loincloth be ::) ::) ::) ::) and should his bangles be brass or gold ::) ::) ::)
Some more colour on the figure - don't worry about all the black, is just the undercoat for the Green Stuff World Toxic Purple on the axe and Nebula Copper on the body armour and bangles.
The toe nails are the wrong colour!
Too much information!
More work done n Helichopper Wilsoon - just the toe nails to do, how about pink
Looks good but if we are going to look like that, I?m glad I won?t be around by then.
Bob c
Very colourful Martin.
Weird but mostly misunderstood!
Yes that's me but what about the model - hohoho
Hmmm...........
Back to a little figure painting - head now finished using the retarder medium, just the stitches on the hat to paint dark brown when its all dry and then a flory wash
Back to your usual oddities then?
YES - well it does say MSea on the plinth :) :) :)
Yes, very ... je ne sais quoi.
What French as well as Latin?
I do my best. Facio optimem meum.
Well for you 2 in English, may be incorrect speeelling but - this is a brown Flory wash on the head and will remove most when dry - hohohoho ;) ;) ;)
Get scrubbing!
First scrubbing done - now to walk away - look at it again later and see if it needs more removed
The spitting image no less!
So Chris I am a pumpkin head then, just wait till I next go into Mighty Lancer and we will see what I can find to make another model of YOU - hohohho - >:( >:( >:( >:(
I can't wait!
Another for MSea's Army - now who does it look like, could be Chris for the comments about me looking like a pumpkin head, or Zak who says he is surprised that I can read - decisions decisions decisions - hohohohoh
Primed and started to put some block colour on the parts - its still not coming to me who he looks like, maybe when he has his armour in place and some light brown dry brushing on his fur ;D ;D ;D ;D
I think it may be best if I say nothing at this stage.
Why ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D at the moment I think he looks like he might like helicopters ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
More block colouring done
He looks mean.
Found this 7 inch Warhammer 40,000 figure in B&M for ?12.50. They say I can have no open cuts when I go for my operation , so think I will have to stop scratch building soon - you all know what I am like with a scalpel :'( :'( :'( :'(
Think I can do no damage if i am just painting the figure - now again its the problem of who does it look like - hohhohoho ::) ::) ::) ::)

Could only be one of the club committee..........I suppose?
Kevin
It looks like a Samurai White Walker!!
It'll end up being a zombie!
Not a zombie at the moment Chris - but you never know - hohhoho
The joints on the figure are now to be glued solid and then made to look like the material it should be - we will see how it goes
Looking good so far.
Filler added now to let it dry and see how much it shrinks -- and then more filler and final shaping
Could you come and replace my joints.
He Looks a bit angry, is he taking over from you to the door at club nights or does he know something about the next committee meeting.
Bob c
Yes to all questions Chris and Zak -- BUt I am doing my joints first, well the hip at least

A few pins will be required as well!
Figure primed and photo taken - this has been replicated several times so I can try different colours on the model, without having to do it on the model, say &&^%$$% and then remove the paint befor trying again - hohhoho - well thats the plan at the moment
It is a bit scary!
Is that better - hohhohoho
Self portrait I presume - oops!
Amazing Likeness...... hohoho
Just you two wait - retribution will be on your head soon - hohhohohohhoohoh >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Martin obviously.
WRONG
A coat of gloss black on the body armour - will eventually have Green Stuff World colourshift Nebula Copper - but the rest of the clothes to be done first.
Can't be me, he's not wearing glasses!
Kevin
That can be arranged - hohhohoho 8) 8) 8) 8)
Definitely scary.
Less scary Chris or does the blue make him more frightening to you - hohohho ::) ::) ::) :P :P
Are those Adidas Trainers he is wearing......
He must be preparing for a committee meeting.
He's a bit late for Whitby Goth Weekend.
Maybe he is getting some new clothes in the Black Friday sales!

Kevin
First thin coat of copper on the armour - several moe to go
Still looks scary.
Think the scary thing at the moment is my brain turning to mush - during painting of the boots noticed I had not filled in the gaps so the boot could move, also the pin holing it to the rest of the foot - hey ho - out with the filler, at least it will give Zak a chance to laugh at me :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :'(
Ha, ha, he, he.
Glad to be of some use - for a change :o :o :o
More work done on the figure
When I can pick up a scalpel again this is the main idea for a door behind the figure.
This was found in one of my books on Art Deco - it is an outside gate, so it will be used as a basic idea for a door in a coridor with a mirror background, now do I have any Art decor wallpaper to go with this :-\ :-\ :-\
Very colourful figure and a nice gate.
Nice work Martin,
Like the idea of the gateway.
Cheers,
Kevin
The gate/door will be a homage to Haddock, even using gears he gave me
Hi Msea,
A very nice idea, I'm sure that he would of approved.
Cheers Kevin
A very colourful figure Martin. I do like the metallic blue.
Start made on the door, gear teeth to be filled into the curved section and then glue it in place, Still looking for some silver card to go behind the bars and gear wheels when finished.
Gears added - now to TRY and make a mirror image :o :o :o :o :o
Looking good Martin. Your imagination is amazing.
Intricate work there Msea.
Nice to see some scratch building.
Doors under way - still looking for my silver card ::) ::) ::) ::)
The figure looks mean, gates coming along nicely.
Bob c
Side pannels under construction - only this one to finish and then another 3 to make :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
It's going to be good!
All bits added and now sprayed black - also the brain is still mush, did not need another 3 pannels as it only needed one on each side, not one on each side of the two doors :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
At least your brain kicked in, before you had made the unwanted panels.
Should look good and futuristic.
Kevin
Door frame finished and base made - now what colour should I do the walls - how about zombie pink :P :P :P :P
Get some bricks laid first.

In my dreams - hohohhoho
Base painted black now and the door finished , just to add to the silver card.
The wallpaper is still to be decided on and still think I might put wood on the bottom half of the wall :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Good selection of wallpapers.
Thanks Chris - got them in a dolls house shop in York when it was shutting down.
Decided to do a wood floor (not stone ) and do the wall fully covered in wallpaper, now which one to choose ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

What no "ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!" paper to hand?
NO used it all up - hohohho
Nice pink flowery wallpaper added to the back wall, will trim to size when dry. The door has been glued to the mirror paper and next job is to cut the wood to make the door frame - only 8 bits to make and join together - but heyho its all for FUN :o :o :o
Is that Zombie pink wallpaper?
NO Chris its zombie flowers.
The door frame now made and fitted, when dry, a little cleaning up to do and then fasten it to the zombie flowers wall ;) ;) ;)
Will it be a Feminine Zombie?
Nice Floral Wallpaper seems to indicate a Zombie of the fairer sex?
Kevin
Door added to the wall
Is this your new living room?
Very posh!
Yes Zak just planning it out for a full "Art Deco" room - only thing missing is the money to do it :( :( :( :(
Looking good Martin.
Next project started at Playday - they are the Italeri "English Knights & Archers" from the 100 years war.
The knights have now been drilled and pinned to the horse and fastened with super glue - we shall see how they go, next job some paint - now were did i put that very small brush :-\ :-\ :-\
All primed now to fasten on the bow strings - and look for bits that have dropped off :-[ :-[
Is that dropped off you or the models?
Could be both :( :( :(
Good progress Martin.
Looking at the figures - lots of flash to clean up and also the archer is firing a thick log not an arrow - will I replace, NO, it can stay as it is and blow the rivet counters :P :P :P :P :P but I will remove the flash
That'll keep you busy.
NOTHING keeps me out of trouble - hohhohoho ::) ::) ::) ::)
All figures now on own bit of card and numbered - so that I can list what colours they have been painted. So when they need touching up (yes I am not as accurate as some of you, so they will have blobs of the wrong colour on the wrong bits ) I don't have to guess what the colour is. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Very organised.......
Definitely keeping you busy Martin
Had a day out in Brid and got this at Mighty Lancer - now which of our club members does this remind me of - hohhohohohohoho
None of us are that good looking..............hohoho
Kevin
Many a true word - hohohhooh
Decided to use this old base I made several years ago. The ex-poly will give the hight for the knights at the back and enough room for all the standing figures at the front, plaster rocks added to the front of the poly and next job a bit of filler for the ground.
Rocks painted black and then grey highlights added
Blacker and Bolder.......
A brown wash on the soil - so if it shows through the grass, its not white plaster of Paris - yes i know the edges need a little more colour, on with it.
The last photo is the basic block colour added to the ogre figure - a little more touching up on the edges and then on with the shading - BUT what is his name - hohohhoho
Position of the horse knights on the hill top - will I just glue them into place or cut out small holes for them to fit inside. Yes you are correct, why do something the easy way when you can make lots of extra work for yourself - hohohhohoho
Well you were an engineer, or so we are led to beleive!
YES 20 years solving problems with a hammer - hohhohoho
The rest of the holes cut for the foot soldiers, next job make more wood defensive posts and drill holes for them
looking good Martin.
Bob c
Thanks Bob - its a lot of holes in some mud - about my level I think.
Also not a figure in sight, so Howard can't make comments about the face painting - hohhohohohho

From 'Engineer' to 'Mud Mover'..........Impressive skill change, hohohoho.
Kevin
I wait with baited breath.
Don't you just love 1/72 scale - all morning painting and little to show. Thats before I even go to quality control and repaint the bits that have been missed and don't get me started on the thousands of belts and straps that have to be painted - but heyho its all for FUN >:( >:( >:( >:(
You think you have problems painting, wait until you try painting camoflague on 1/72 scale WW2 German troops, then you definitely get eyestrain!!!!
Colourful though Martin.
Thanks Chris but a good coat of Flory wash will dull them all down :-\ :-\ :-\
This reminds me of painting wargaming armies back in the 80s.
Paint all the browns... paint all the greens... paint all the silver... :o
Very impressive.
Next project for playday - Italeri 1/72 scale colonial wars figures.
They will be done (or at least half of them) as a tribute to Saragarhi and Gandumuck - you can do your own history research or just look at the figures - hohohoho - with the title of "The Last Stand"
North-wesr frontier perhaps?
Some Gaugemaster dark green scatter now added to the base - next job finish painting the figures and then add scatter to each figure base befor glueing them in place
Will you be covering the figure bases with scatter once in place?
Kevin
Some more work done on the metal on the door - a bit more rust to add and then some rust streaks as well
Very nice!
Yes, nice work on the door.
Thanks but still more rust to add.
More work done on the knights and foot soldiers - now to see what bits I have missed and then add scatter to th base of each and glue them to the main base. Also a new figure to wind up Neil at the meeting
Very colourful Martin.
Start made on adding the bow strings - now how many people will spot them on the finished model - hohhohoho - should have gone to specsavers ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Yes its another figure for my army - got this at Figure World North - have no idea why, it just appealed to me.
I forgot to say it was 50% off - wonder if that made a difference hohohoho
Keeping up with Howard then?
How many more archers do you have to re-string?

Strings out of the hat and fastened to the bow
Impressive.
All figures fastened down and had a coat of pledge - next job, when dry is flory wash, then green on the base.
A very colourful bunch.

Kevin
Bring on the flory wash :o :o :o :o
Is she the comedienne?
NO but I am saying nothing else about her show ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
4 figures befor they get a flory wash - don't you just love photos look at the last one, I have forgoten to paint the stirups :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Look good Martin.
Your painting skills are up to a good standard, better than mine....!
Kevin
Start made on the leather armour sections on the Ottoman soldier - because it has a black undercoat for the chain mail, think each section will need 3 coats of red leather with a 20/0 brush to get the colour looking good :P :P :P :P :P

Figures added to the base
Looks good.
Will it be on show tomorrow?
YES -- you and Howard can pull it to bits then :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Very nice Martin.
First coat of brown on the Ottoman soldiers belts and straps
I see your avatar has also had a coat of thickening brown!
Kevin
Looking good Martin.
Yes Kevin - a pint of larger, cuban heel boots and dark curly hair - now what happened to all of that lot - hohohhoho
Back to the "Last Stand" - all the figures now drilled and a wire added to each leg, also started to build up the center of the base for some hight, when happy and painted will add some 10mm static grass.
Coming together nicely, I like the way that you place the figures in the static grass, so that they don't look plonked on.
Ottomans shield now mounted and coat of silver.
The "Last Stand" figures now primed and ready to be painted and then hidden in the long grass - so Howard can't see how bad my painting is (think I should stick to buildings) :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
You are busy, I wish I was, can't seem to get going at the moment.

Covid and Flu jabs next week -joy!!!!!!

Yes something to look forward toooooooo on Sat and Covid a few days later - think the RUM will make me feel better or at least not feel anything yoho yoho yoho
Sounds my kind of Therapy..........
Hope you don't feel too bad after the jab.
More time to contemplate the next stage in the build.
Base made with feet and coat of brown paint and 10mm static grass added - now to paint the figures :-\ :-\ :-\
Skin, blue trousers and flag background painted
Looking good Martin.
More work on the uniforms - next job lots of belts and bags
I suppose you had an alter ego who worked in Army Stores.......?
Nice progress on the figures.

Yes off the streets but not out of the garden - was trying to get this finished for Wed night BUT a tree has come down and is on top of the doghouse so all day chopping it up and trying to get rid - and just to make you all happy, its covid jab on Tuesday :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Pain in the garden and pain in the arm on Tuesday.......
Plenty to look forward to........
I like the use of pegs when painting the figures, I assume you put wire in the feet? Just so I didn't feel left out I had my Flu and Covid jabs on Saturday and apart from a slight ache in the arm and a bit snuffly I feel ok at the moment. After the jabs we went to Brid so a trip to Mighty Lancer was in order where the staff helped us choose a green for Grogu's face. Our nephew is printing figures for us to give as Christmas presents so I'll have a lot of painting to keep me occupied soon!! Makes a change from tanks and aeroplanes.
Joining even "the darker side" compared to ships hohohho
Still working on all the figures - next job check for missing bits of paint or splashes
Steady progress Martin.
Good detail. Howard had better watch out.
NO Chris - look at the face hohohhhoo
More work done on figures
I do you hope you've painted the flag the right way up, can't quite tell from the photo.
Right way up - with my painting Chris, I am glad you can tell what flag it is hohohhoho
Nice work Martin, Howard better watch out, he's got competition in the flag painting......
Nicely painted Martin.
The white at the top does look a tad thin which is understandable since the chap looks to be somewhat distressed.
Coat of Flory wash on all figures

(not realy but that sounds that I care hohohohhohoho)
You'll have fun with these.
