Title: Modelling the Spitfire I
Post by: meremodeller on May 14, 2015, 02:44:48 PM
Thought I ought to use this forum again after last nights little talk.

Those who looked carefully at the Spitfire I on the table will have noted the overpainted RWBY roundels on both the fuselage and upper wing positions. This is how I did it; the fuselage was just a yellow disc which was then over-sprayed, whilst the wings had RWBY roundel transfers applied then over-sprayed. Note the sharp demarcation between the DE and DG as I was trying to depict the possible hand painting out of the yellow and blue of the original roundels.

Very clever - how many Spitfires is it now?

I think it must be about 45 now but some were built from old kits and quite a long time ago, so I wouldn't really put them on the table now. Since becoming a member of the B & W Club my standards of modelling and research have improved vastly!!!!

RWBY roundels?  What sort of a thing is that then?  As I understand it there were plenty of different styles but have never quite got me head around them all yet.  I did manage to work out that DE and DG was Dark Earth and Dark Green though.

Erm, yeah, that'll be it then.  I was just overthinking things.  Doh!  Thanks.

Nice models Bill,
Did not realise they were actually 'painted on' as the real thing. They looked very good on the table.
Spitfire No.46 on the building table now.........................?
