Title: Something Completely Different - a 1/76 tramway
Post by: zak on June 19, 2026, 03:30:43 PM
Whilst at the Bilton Model Show I was really taken with the tramway models on display and so thought that I could give it a go.

I needed a change from 1/700 ships.

The first venture would be a small street scene, in 1/76 scale. Something to display a tram against, when the model arrives.

Kingsway models do some free downloads in card and I decided to give one a go.

My printer has run out of coloured ink and so, I thought that I could scratch build something similar out of card.

My efforts so far.

Hand laid brick courses and slates from smallll bits of thin card.

You sound like one of my dads comments -- he used to meet up with some pals for a drink and bite to eat in a pub, said it was great as "help the aged" was on one side and a "funeral directors" on the other. As he said everything to hand, as well as food and drink, what more could you ask for  ::)  ::)  ::)

The RH end just about there, even the tram will run down this end of the track and through the points.
The road way cobbles are from DAS air drying clay.
The cobbles need some work, just had a layer of dark wash at the moment.
As a kid I seem to remember cobbles having gas tar between them?

The next is a Keil Kraft plastic tram from the 1908's I think.
This is a simple build but will benefit from some added details. especially around the top balconies.
I will also motorise it.

I need to add glazing, none was supplied in the kit, and it does not show any on the basic instructions.

While the paint dries, this is another white metal kit from way back when.
BEC tram kits Feltham Car no14.
Used in both London and Leeds.
The white metal sides were quite distorted and took some straightening out.
The rubber bands holds all in place as the glue dries.
