"Is it a total South African design or based on ?"

Indigenous South African design using the power plant and drivetrain from the Oryx, which is itself an indigenous development of the 'classic' Puma and is broadly similar to the Super Puma. As a result it's quite large for an attack helicopter.

'Rooivalk' is the Afrikaans word for kestrel, although it literally translates as 'red falcon'.

Nice kit of an unusual subject, Chris!

Canopy and a few other bits assembled. The canopy being vacform was a bit tricky - it took a few goes.

I had no idea the South Africans had a helicopter industry. Interesting subject.

Masked up and ready to prime. I'll find all the blemishes and extra filling requirements once it's got a coat of primer on.

Looks great Chris, as long as you're happy with it that's all that matters. As we've all said countless times before we all know the faults on our builds.

It wasn't until the club meeting that I realised how big this helicopter is in real life. When compared to Barney's HU-1Y in 1/48 it was nearly as big despite being to 1/72. Great result Chris.
