Title: Revell Airbus EC-135 Air-Glaciers 1/72
Post by: Bigkev on November 18, 2025, 04:54:29 PM
Hi All,
Another EC-135 by Revell. Essentially the same moulding as the ADAC kit with an additional sprue with new parts applicable to this version, though a lot of the new pieces on the new sprue are not actually used in this build, being for other incarnations of the EC-135 produced by Revell.

What attracted me to this offering is the striking colour scheme of Red and Yellow, so again another one the wife will like.

Some pictures of the box art, and the sprues before work commences.

With a name like Air-Glaciers I thought this would be Canadian but that's a Swiss registration. Looking forward to seeing this colourful build, anything like the last one and you'll do it justice.

Are you doing a whole squadron of EC135s now Kevin?

No Chris, not a 'whole squadron'............
Just doing those with colourful liveries, perhaps a Spanish Gardia/Police version after this one.

Hi All,
Now underway with this one. First task is to remove the excess flash on the fuselage halves, undercarriage skids, internal details.
As I was on with filling the 'Puma', I thought I would add some Milliput to some sink marks on the upper fuselage halves after removing the flash. I have used Mr. Hobby filler on a previous subject (ADAC version), but found it to still leave some 'ghost' marks in the sink areas. Hopefully this will be a bit harder and sand down and not shrink.

Sink marks filled.

I should invest in filler if I were you!

This one won't require a lot, it was just that I knew from experience that I needed to use something different on the upper fuselage sink marks. Also as hard as I try I always seem to apply excessive milliput, and then have to sand it back.

Hi All,
Given the issues we have been having with the website, I thought I'd try and post an update here. So far, I have painted and assembled the cockpit and managed to get the fuselage halves together.
Will post some pictures later.

Hi All,
Please find attached the pictures to go with the description. This is mainly to try and see if the website is behaving normally.
Build going okay, should have tail section glued in place tomorrow.
Thanks for looking.

Whilst the website has been down have been on with this one.
Now given a Pink undercoat, then a coat of Matt Yellow as a base for the Gloss Yellow.
Gloss Yellow with a spot of Red added to match the decal sheet as best I could.
When dry, Yellow Gloss then masked off in readiness for Red (No pun Intended)

More painting:-
Matt red given as general base for gloss red. Gloss red applied in three thin coats (Tamiya). Initial coat with Tamiya thinners, then second 30% Paint, 30% Tamiya thinners, 40% Mr. Self Levelling Thinners. 3rd Coat, 40% paint, 60% Mr. Hobby Self Levelling Thinners.
Good ventilation and spray mask required!!
Once dry masking carefully removed. Only a couple of faint bleeds that needed polishing off with very fine sanding stick then yellow buffed back to sheen.
Whole model then given 3 coats of Kleer to seal all paintwork in readiness for the decals.
Some pictures follow, thanks for looking:-

Decalling under way.........

The fuselage cheatlines that I thought would be a headache fitted like a dream. The same cannot be said of the stylised tail marking. No matter how I tried I could not get it to fit. There being a join between the two decals right up the fenestron tail. Using copious amounts of Microsol, I finally got it somewhere near, but not as I would have liked.

So I have decided to let the solvents do their thing overnight. Looking in the decal spares I managed to find some solid yellow markings from an old Zero sheet which match the yellow decal quite well. So next job will be overlay some of the block strip over the offending gaps, and then finally a spot of paint here and there to tidy up.

You can also see that the side windows have been unmasked. A little paint chipping  of the red occurred, but nothing that cannot be fixed with a fine brush. I might also add some thin black decal strip around the windows and then touch in the corners with black paint.

Some pictures, thanks for looking.

Thanks guys.
Well have been applying the remaining decals today and sorting out the Fenestron decals. The old 'Zero' solid colour was cut into small slices and applied over the gaps that were apparent. I used Daco 'strong' setting solution to soften these slices. Eventually the softened really well and conformed nicely.
I only need to do a little touching up now with the tip of a small paintbrush loaded with Yellow. The endplates on the stabilizer don't fit too well either, and I used the same solution on these. There is a little excess film to trim off when they have dried, for which I will use a new scalpel blade. The outer edge will need touching in.
Next visit to the bench will be to address these small touch ups.

Almost there.
Fenestron finished and painted, cockpit canopy test fitted. Small touch ups of paint carried out.
Still to do, dipping the canopy, attaching it and filling the gaps around it and then paint. Engine exhausts to paint in including vents/intakes Small aerials above fuselage and on tail, nose search light assembly. Navigation lights.
but here it is at the moment.

Looks really good Kev. I like the idea of using matt paint to 'key' the gloss in.
