Title: Howard's Junkers
Post by: Bigkev on January 26, 2025, 07:54:16 PM
Hi All,
This project is a 'Thankyou' and reflection on the kind gift from fellow club member Howard, who raided his stash (or should that be 'Thinned it out') and presented me with an 1/144th Eduard Combo set of Messerschmitt 262's that I am building elsewhere on this forum, in addition he also brought along two Junkers Ju87's in 1/144th one a 'B' the other a 'D'.
Howard had done the lions share of the 'B' (shown here) but it had suffered from a couple of breaks and a little glue on the canopy. The etch brass was unused as were the decals.
So as thanks to Howard I hope to give this kit a bit of a refresh and finish it.
At this stage I'll probably mould a new canopy and perhaps a suggestion of a cockpit, then repair/reattach the broken parts and add the etch brass.
Then give it a neat paint job.

Some pictures follow, thanks for looking

What are the markings for the 'B', Poland, BoB, Africa or Russia? The 'D' will be mostly the same I assume? Being Eduard they should make up into great little models. No doubt you'll do them justice.

The B has markings for a B-1 early european,  a B-2 in North Africa, a B-1 Spanish Civil War, and another B-2 possibly Mediterranean theatre.
For a B-1 I'll have to thin the propellor blades at least. However Howard had already attached the fuel tank panniers so it will probably end up a B-2 variant.

Well, I've made a start on this with the voice of Johnny Five 'No disassemble' ringing in my ears. I have detached the wings, tailplanes, flaps, alerions, cockpit canopy, and propellor.
I'm going to reattach the wings with correct dihedral, and square up the tailplanes which were a little off.
The canopy wasn't as bad as I thought and has polished up quite well.

After a bit of research, I found out that the B-1 variant did actually have the fuel tank panniers and was the Junkers Ju87B-1/R1. The engine cowling was revised and was similar to the B-2, though the depth of the radiator intake was slightly smaller than that of the B-2.

Moving on, I have now opened up the cockpit as it was blanked over. some plasticard was added to the front and rear to help the canopy match up better. I have also made a start on some of the cockpit, making something that loosely recreates the layout of the cockpit. I have made the start on the pilots seat. Once all the various bits are added and painted it will hopefully look like a busy cockpit.
Thanks for looking.

A little bit more.
The seat now made and the observer's rotating stool made and added to the cockpit section. Some scraps of plasticard for the radios. The instrument panel in place awaiting its shroud.
Thanks for looking

Once the canopy is on it will look great, only you will know the work that went into it.

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for the comments. Probably true that what will be visible will be limited, but I know it's there, and at least you do too.
More progress later today. At the moment doing George Formby, cleaning the windows......
'If you could see, what I can see, when I'm making Junkers.........' ;D  ;D  ;D

Wings:-
Had to replace some of the broken/missed supports for flaps and alerions with some stretched sprue. I used liquid poly to attach them and then some Black CA to fill any gaps. A quick sand and looks okay. I'll need to remake a couple of flaps that were missing.
The wings now re-attached at correct dihedral, this means a small gap on the undersides to deal with, but shouldn't be too much of a problem.
