Title: Captain Kraken
Post by: MSea on January 15, 2025, 09:40:08 AM
Its been a very slow start to the year model wise - so hope to kick start it with this new model.
Picked it up at Telford (my last one, the show not the model hohoho) its a 1/9 bust from S K Miniatures.
So first thing is to say sorry to Howard - who will look at it and say what a bodge up you have made of the paint job, but as long as I enjoy doing it and get some fun from it - thats OK with me. When I have done the jobs in the garden and sorted out the sink in the bathroom, will get on with a base and priming the model.

Yes the Kraken Wakes - seems to have got the modelling mojo working again - or it could just turn me into re-reading the Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham again, now that was a good book or I could just re-read Treasure Island what to do  :P  :P  :P  :P  :P

Read both and watch the films, then modelling will take a back seat!

Isn't that what you used to get the new lad to do. "Just go next door for a long stand."

I got sent to ask for a 'Left-Handed Screwdriver' and a 'Right Handed Mug' when I first started work.
Guess, I was the 'Mug' then.

Now, I have progressed and I am looking for that elusive can of 'Tartan Paint'.....hohohoho.  :P  :P  :P

Decided the bottom part of the base needs to be a little smaller (this one will be donated to "Samurai Sam - well thats his name at the moment) and the plinth part needs about 20 mm removing to make it shorter. The top of the plinth has been cut so that it is the same angle as the bottom of the figure and both have been drilled and a brass rod inserted.
Is it time for coffeeeee or rum - ohhhhh no its chauffer job all afternoon  :-\  :-\  :-\  :-\

Front and back photo taken of the model and then put onto a printable page -  before printing changed to grey scale and toned it out.
Now what use is that I hear some of you say - will put colour onto the coat and hat on the photo to help decide what to use, easier than getting half way through painting it red and then change my mind to purple - well thats the plan at the moment.

Decided that Captain Kraken needed the "Pillars of Hercules" on his base, so dug out the 2 small bottles of rum to form them.
History lesson the pillars are at the exit from the med and warn sailors not to go any further, as nothing exists beyond the pillars.  Also another history lesson - if we have any clowns in the club who decide to drain the 2 pillars, they only contain black water BUT could have a couple of drops of fenal thalene in them - if they do and you drink them make sure you have lots and lots of toilet rolls available yoho yoho yoho

Could that even be phenolphthalein?

A well know indicator for titrations in the Chemistry World, I somehow wonder if it has laxative effects?

In my youth I heard a story about someone who didn't carry water into the mine but would drink from another person's so that person put some hydraulic fluid in their 'dudley'. You get the same effect but you're down a mine with no toilet!!!
