Title: Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8
Post by: cph64 on August 01, 2024, 04:35:11 PM
I started this two PlayDays back as a 'quick build', interestingly Kev also started the same kit but a different boxing. Mine is A68210, the Gift Set with paints(?) and glue. At first glance mine didn't have any warping, unlike Kev's, but as the build progressed I found that one of the upper wing parts was warped (see badly out of focus photo). The rest of the build was simple but I did find the fit of the main u/c legs sloppy and one had to be adjusted once I found it had set incorrectly. There's no DF loop in the kit so an etch spare was fitted.
The kit markings, one choice only, are for 7/JG 26 in Belgium 1944 but in my on Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Aces on the Eastern Front there is a profile of 'Yellow 1' flown by Leutnant Gerd Thyben, Staffelkapitan 7/JG 54, Libau-Grobin/Courland circa January 1945. His final victim on May 8th 1945 was also the very last of the nearly 9500 enemy aircraft claimed destroyed by the 'Green Hearts' (Grunherz). As JG 54 is my go-to unit I went with this. THe finish is a drab late war one which I interpreted as RLM 83, Dunklegrun, over RLM 76 v2, Lichtblau. There's no plan view in the profile so I went with overall RLM 83 on the upper surfaces. Decals came from various sources but I still need to find some yellow '1's of the correct size.

Hi Chris,
That looks very nice. Mine is still on the 'pending shelf', but I will get around to it, toying with the idea of a 'bent Fw-190' with engine panels off.
As to 'Number 1'  decals, have looked in my decal stash and found these old Frog Fw-190 decals. Thinking you could make a '1' out of the '7' and 'I' on the sheets with some judicious cutting.
Yours if you want them to try.
Kevin

Thanks Kev, I'll give it a go if you don't really need them.
Re fast build I'm not sure about that, but thanks anyway.
