Title: Kirov
Post by: MSea on May 25, 2024, 11:21:19 AM
Yes I have been up in the loft and retrieved this from many years ago - its the Trumpeter 1/700 scale cruiser and also the White Ensign (that shows how long its been in the loft) set of etch brass for it. The base has been made and will be cleaned up at playday and the seam down the center of the hull removed - sorry Haddock but she will be displayed on plinths not in the water.
She was laid down in 1974 and commissioned in 1980.  Most people call her a "Battlecruiser" because of her size but he Russians just called her a "Heavy nuclear powered guided missile cruiser"
Now will the fingers and eyes be still able to work on a 1/700 scale or will it end up in the box of shame

Warning - DON'T work on your model late at night when you are tired and not at your best, especially when you have just got a new bottle of Vallejo hull red out and not coloured the top.  You wake up and find that you have picked up the bottle of mahogany brown instead - or did the evil hob goblins sneek into my room and re-paint the ships hull diuring the night  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Obviously the Hobgoblins. Ask me about my dream about Goblins with rucksacks sometime!

We all have those days.

First 3 sections of the main accomodation/bridge/funnel made and a trial run with them in place.  Next 10,000 million bits of etch brass to make and fit - the joys of etch brass what FUN  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Post by: zak on May 29, 2024, 08:31:36 AM
Just think "FUN", but is it?
Title: Re: Kirov
Post by: MSea on May 29, 2024, 09:24:16 AM
Yes it is FUN - because I can choose to use or not use the very small bits of etch brass and just go with the plastic sections.

You could always leave lots of the bits off and model her as being in harbour waiting to be scrapped after the reactor incident?

Some of the deck sections added to the upper hull - problem - because i drilled out the portholes instead of just deepening them tohalf the hull side , some of the glue has drbbled onto the outside of the hull.  :-\ :-\ :-\   Just another clean up job to do  ;) ;) ;)

The positioning holes for the aft superstructre have been changed from round to oval, so that the structure can now be pushed further aft removing a lot of the gap.
No we don't need any "mind the gap" jokes thank you all  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
