Title: ELINT Mi17
Post by: chriswil42 on April 02, 2024, 02:29:28 PM
Started this at the last playday.
It's the basic KP kit with some resin extras for the barrel antenna enclosures.
Cockpit assembled.

I have some resin landing legs and the remainder of a Bergamot Mil Mi-8 'Hip' sheet, 72-012, which could be adapted if you wanted to have different markings? I've only used the Kyrgyzstan Army ones. You could look the sheet up online for the options left, just a thought. If you want them DM me your address as I'm off to Norway for two weeks on Sunday so this could be long built before I return.

Certainly a different 'Hip'.
Those barrel antenna look ungainly in appearance, more like a laden donkey.

Thanks for the offer Chris. I will use those with the kit. There were only a handful (2 or 3 I think) modified.

The fuselage is mostly together with a fair bit of filling and fettling on the underside.
The thickness of plastic on each of the fuselage halves was not the same.

Just about ready to think about adding the barrels. These are resin and the is a bit ofettling to be done. This may take a while.

Getting there slowly. The barrel support struts are a little problematical.

Barrels assembled. I will paint the main colours on the fuselage before attempting to add the support struts.

Any idea how the Elint Barrels actually worked?

I presume they were full of different antennas with any signal pricessing in the helicopter itself.

There is a real question?
What does MSEA know?

Looks good Chris.

I don't know either.  I think the original scheme was the camouflage then the yellow bits were added - for what reason is anybody's guess.
Just wait till the green antenna oil drums get added.

Perhaps they've gone for a disruptive scheme? People look at it and can't belive what they're seeing!!!

It will be very eye catching on the model table that's for sure!

Decals placed. A grand total of four.
I was expecting problems with these as I probably bought the kit 20 years ago so I first tried the manufacturers name which  disintegrated as expected. So after a couple of coats of varnish I finally managed to soak them off separating the backing sheet with the careful use of a scalpel between it and the decal. It took a while.

Nice work, and well done with the decals.

Agree with Zak.
Done a good job saving the old decals with a bit of patience and a good bit of skill.

Now complete. It took some delicate work fixing the barrels each side with the supporting spars. Needed about four hands.

That's a a very striking machine.
Certainly a good talking point with those ECM barrels and the colour scheme.
Well done Chris, a cracking build.
