Started this last Tuesday, it's meant to be a bit of light relief from PoW. It's about a foot long so not all that big.
So we've got hull assembled, water-lined and some superstructure dry- fitted ready for paint.
Haddock.
Have you done one of these before ????

I thought you had built a monitor like one before as well?
You did in June 2014, if you look back.
You're both right, it suffered "battle damage" at Telford, couldn't repair it.
I've always been drawn to it's unusual looks so I thought "why not", do another, this time
in the camo scheme.

Fair enough, will you make a better job? Impossible the last one was really good.
How can you improve on perfection ??????

How can you improve on perfection ??????
Quite.
The first one was before I joined the club so should be interesting.
I've always liked the looks of Monitors as they're that little bit different. Looking forward to seeing this progress.

I agree. They have a rather WAR of the WORLDS look.
Good stuff.

No such thing as perfection, just different levels of "niceness".
Haddock.
Stuff like this can keep you occupied for a while.
Haddock.
Is that glazed aswell Tony?
Intricate stuff, nicely done.

Is that glazed aswell Tony?
It won't be. The sunlight reflecting on glass can be seen from miles away,
you can sometimes see it before you can see the ship. I t would give the position away.
It was common practice to remove bridge windows and cover the fronts of search-lights
for the same reason..
Haddock.
You are a mine of information Haddock

It's 'cos I can read!
The things you learn on here! Thanks Tony!
Looks intricate and interesting!
I only have books with pictures - hohohoho
Tony,
What era would this ship be? Looks sort of WW!
And what is a Monitor?
She was a WW2 monitor Red - this was a type of ship that could get close inshore to bombard things with her large 15 inch guns, because she had a not very deep hull, unlike a battleship also with 15 inch guns but a very deep hull for sea-keeping abilities. Because Haddock is litterate laterate literratte can read i expect he will fill you in on more details - hohohoho
MSea has said it all except the strange shape was because the "blisters" on the sides were ballast tanks. In shallow water, they could be flooded and the ship would sit on the bottom making a very stable gun platform.
They had their uses in the days when we used to "send a gunboat"
There were only two in WW2, Roberts and Abercrombie, they both lasted out the war and had busy careers.
Poor sea-boats and slow with a top speed of about ten knots.
Haddock.
You're truly a mine of information. I didn't know some were still used in WW2.
Wikipedia!
Would NOT like to be on the wrong end of those 15'' guns.
Great model.

Andy.
One of them is mounted outside the Imperial War Museum in London, there's two, don't
remember where the other came from. They do look big.
Haddock.
Always wanted to go there.
Iv'e seen and heard some big guns in my time in the army but the must be something else.
Andy.
Tony and Martin
Thanks for increasing my education!
I didn't realise they were in use so late
Bin sloshing some paint on, here's progress to date.
Haddock.
Slosh away. Very nice.
Looking good. 8)
Andy.
Very nice.
Another great looking ship in the pipeline, well done.
Both masts on, some bits and bobs added.
Haddock.
looking great
More detail added, probably too small to see.
Time to put it on one side and do something else for a while
Haddock.
Coming along nicely.
My thoughts exactly.

That's an understatement if ever I heard one.
Looking good Tony.
Bob c
Sinister looking warship.
Looking good.
Andy.
Looking excellent Tony. Paintwork looks good.
More magic!
Where do you get that gridded seascape....?
Only joking.
Another Haddock beauty.
Bigkev
Just about done. Needs some varnish to get rid of the shiny bits and maybe
dirtying up a little.
The stuff on the bow is an Acoustic hammer. The idea was that when it was deployed,
the "hammer"made a noise that should detonate acoustic mines ahead of the ship whilst underway, bet that was exciting!
Haddock.
Lovely, do you feel that it is better than the other one you built.
It looks nice.

probably.
Great decisive answer, maybe?
Looks great as usual
The rigging looks amazing Tony. Another fine addition to the fleet.
Finished building this in Oct 2020, it's been waiting for a base ever since.
So now it's on a base just waiting for the sea to be completed.
Haddock.
