Next project - as well as also finishing some ships that have been in harbour for much tooooooo long
Always had this building in the back of my mind since seeing it, thought it would make a good model.
Got the Zvezda set of modern Russian Infantry at Mighty Lancer last visit and first idea was to do a box diorama of the 1/35 scale figures stood on the steps and the building in the background with some 1/72 figures to show scale in the distance. Then remembered the photo on page 182 of Russia At War 1941/45 by Vladimir Karpov and thought it could be done as a double sided model with World War Two on one side and 2014 figures on the other side..Will rough them out and see what goes, might even get some more figures and do both 8) 8) 8) 8)

It'll be up to your usual standard Martin. We'll wait and see.
-
You mean as bad as usual - hohohhoho - but at leat this one will have NO zombies ::) ::) ::) ::)

Until you change your mind.

Trial run with the side of the steps and top building made in card - think it could be a little smaller on the steps - now how to make them ?
Could be strips of MDF to make solid steps, problem with extra weight OR wood sides and fill with card and plaster - decisions decisions decisions :o :o :o
-
Trial run with the first of the WW2 figures
-
Steps made and building at the top of them - will fill the gaps between the MDF and give it all a coat of Plaster of Paris and see how it turns out - if not happy I have another couple of ideas :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Architecture to the fore.
-
Trial run with the first of the WW2 figures
Looks like a club member making his way to the Tea and Biscuits on a club night!
Kevin
-
Coat of Plaster of Paris on the steps and side of the model - that will slow them down in stealing all the biscuits - when dry will smooth it out and see if it needs another coat
-
Looks ok so far Martin.
-
Are you chipping bullet holes in the steps?
-
Yes Chris and other battle damage
-
Set modern Russian figures put together on playday and now primed - next job get the WW2 figures drilled for pins and get them primed
-
The WW2 figures drilled, pinned and primed
The top of the building has had a skim of plastic added to all side as well as the very top triangular section being now under construction - just have to find the small letters/numbers to add the date on the top wall
-
Busy, busy.
-
Looking good Martin.
-
Thanks all - some more work done on the building
-
Get the roof on before it rains.
-
Coat of white paint on the steps, after they had been cleaned up.
The colour info says Humbrol 120 light green - so looking at conversion charts this is vallejo 76 sky green - but it looks toooooo light to me.
So will try the Ratnik digital colouring and if not happy will overpaint with 74 intermediate green and then try the digital pattern on this - whatever I end up with somebody will say its wrong - but do I care ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Sunglasses required.
-
It is very bright!
-
Pattern done but not happy with the brown - to much of a contrast to the green. Back to the internet and redo the research on uniforms and throw out the kit instructions. And this is all before I start on the face -- good job they all have masks on - saves Howard job shouting at me - hohhoho
-
The top of the steps and the top section of the building have been drilled out to have a grip on the pillars - have seen that the drill has also made a smaller hole in the wood to located the drill. So have decided to drill out the pillars and add a small nail , so that the head of the nail will fit into the small hole and give it some extra strength - well thats the plan at the moment.
-
Lets, hope it works, the best laid plans..................
-
We shall see - have just painted the surround of he steps black , so will have to wait till this is dry before doing a trial run and then glue them in place if it works - hohoho :o :o :o :o
-
All put together - when dry and solid needs a little bit of filler
-
Greek temples next, The Acropolis maybe?
-
Getting there Martin.
-
Reversed the main and dotting colours on the vest - will also change the dark grey on the belts to a medium grey :o :o ??? ??? ???
-
Next 2 ratniks done - think it is improved by less of the light green showing and also dots of colour replaced by squiggle lines :-\ :-\
-
Yes, not quite so garish, a definite improvement.
-
They've still got the Wilko knee pads though!!!!!
-
Looking good.
-
Looking good, some proper modelling.
Bob c
-
Great creative modelling as usual.
Kevin
-
A start made on the decoration on the top of the building
-
Looking good Martin.
-
Thanks all - now on with individual roof tiles for yes you quest it - the roof. When solid will trim the ends and put some bent aluminium ridge tiles on the top to finish it all off.
-
All done and was going to prime the roof BUT its now chucking it down with rain, so can't get into the garage to do the priming.
-
Interesting use of a key card.
-
Always a good Yorkshire man - hohhohohohoh
-
Hi Msea,
You must be the recycling king from Yorkshire.......
Nice work.
Kevin
-
More work done on the building
-
Very imposing, looks Greek or Roman!
-
The way I build them it could be any or all - hohhoho
-
Doric, Ionic or Corinthian?
-
Ruskie!
-
No rust on this one - yet ::) ::) ::)
-
Work done on the figures
-
More work on the figures
-
Scary eyes!
-
Yes scary!
-
More work done on the 4 figures and a trial run with them in place
-
Work done on the last 2 figures
-
Looking good.
-
Start made on the WW2 figures
-
More work on the figures - using some Vallejo retarder medium to help blend in the colours, will see how it looks when dry
-
More work done on the figures and accoutrements
-
Looking good Msea.
-
More work done on the figures and accoutrements
That's a big word! (Work obviously = do you know what it means (ha,ha).
-
YES it means "YOU ARE ON THE LIST" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
YES it means "YOU ARE ON THE LIST" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I must have a few entries on the list?
-
YES you have >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
Trial run with the figures in place
-
Looking good.
-
Likewise - looking good.
-
Some rubble added to the steps on the WW2 side of the model, when dry will give it a Flory wash
-
What, more rubbish?
-
Yes Chris - MORE rubbish and also a flory grime wash on the WW2 side - will remove about 80% of this later .
-
About 70% removed will now put it to one side and then look at it again and see what else needs removing ??? ??? ??? ???
-
Looks effective.
-
Thanks - but somebody will complain - its toooo dark, not dark enough or its the WRONG colour - but who cares definitely not me ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Looks great.
-
Don't tell anyone MSea but you've inspired me to work on the diorama I've had waiting in the wings for too long. Great work.
-
Thanks for the comments - now Chris just get on with it and then the next and the next and the next - looking forward to seeing them ;) ;)
-
No its not a headless zombie - have just done 2 washes of smoke on the bricks and trying one of the figures I started at the last playday
-
Rungs and rings added - now will have to make another 9 rungs as the kit does not have these. Then rust streaks to be added to the stone work.
-
Very enterprising.
-
The bits and bobs for the dock - put together on playday and now primed and ready for painting
-
Good progress Martin.
-
I'm impressed with the quantity, quality and variety of bits on this project Martin. Unfortunately I feel I've lost the plot somewhat as to how all the elements go together. Guess I'll have to wait to see the finished diorama.
-
Patience grasshopper - all will be revealed -hohohho
-
Ohhhhhhhh grasshopper - you are not as confused as me - I have posted the last 2 bits about Andys Long Dock in this string instead of the correct one.
I claim its with working on several models at the same time but expect Zak will says its just because I am :o :o :o :o :o :o
-
Hmm..................................
-
That's very polite Chris ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
First 3 modern figures finished and added to the steps - last one in for a little filler and re-paint job, then he can join his 3 friends.
Then its over to the other side of the model to finish and add the WW2 figures.
-
Looking good.
-
Last figure on the modern side added just the cat to paint and fit - now on with the WW2 side figures
-
They look menacing.
-
Yes they do to me as well - dark night and alley comes to mind :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
First 2 figures finished and added to the steps
-
Last 3 figures added
-
Excellent Martin.
-
Thanks
-
Nice work.
-
Shiny cloaks, was it raining? Seriously though great work.
-
Still needs a coat of mat varnish - hohoho :P :P :P :P
