Well waiting for other things to dry -- so will move over to the light side ( sorry Haddock ) and make a plane. It will be for the competition "less than £20".
Yet again the idea comes from a picture - the photo of the Beagle on display in a run down state, with the plexiglass yellowed and the front glass sections still clear got me thinking ( I will try not to do this very much, as it will damage what is inside my head. ) I will lower the front and one side wheel as if the hydraulic system had been damaged through age ( sounds like most of our group ) and heavily weather the plane.

I do like these cold war aircraft and vehicles. Like Kiteman and Councilman, I spent many a long dreary hour learning how to recognise them from different angles and at different distances and decide whether to fill 'em full of lead or not.

Do you "fill them full of lead" so they are not tail sitters ?????

If that was a serious question, the answer is NO. I was talking about us old soldiers doing our aircraft and vehicle recognition. We had to learn the key tanks, APCs, helicopters and airplanes that NATO and the Warsaw Pact forces would be likely to use - so we could identify them as enemy or friendly and thus know whether to shoot them or not. Or as the Americans would say, shoot them anyway!!! So, slack track, 5 road wheels, large gap between 3rd/4th and 4th/5th road wheels, dome shaped turret with curved handrails, main gun with fume extractor 1/3 way down the barrel, large IR searchlight to right of main gun, low hull with sloping front and straight splash plate, spare fuel drums at back of hull would tell you it was a T62. If it was covered in leaves and branches, being able recall these characteristics would hopefully give you enough visible clues to identify it from a Leopard or Chieftain.

A few bits stuck together and now the job starts to get them smooth and clean and later to make them all rusty and mucky and disgusting ( sound good fun to me. )

The only right side Kiteman is ships - ho ho ho.
Because I am a " ham fisted" type of modeler and knock things off the bench - i have learnt to drill out those stupid little plastic pips that are the size of pin head and replace them with good solid brass bar , to give strength when fastening tail plane and wings into place.

Because the plane will be distressed I have reduced the hydraulic and also made the wheels flat. The wheel has been stuck onto flat plastic and filler added to make the flat bulged out tyre.

Only joking, I like the idea of an abandoned and forgotten airplane. It will be an interesting model when finished.

Lopsided, distressed and weathered is just how I feel a lot of days each month.
Yet again I have to tell you the right side is SHIPS, SHIPS AND MORE SHIPS.

Back to the wrong side - ho ho ho
More bits added and the wheels are ment to be at different sizes, to make the plane look abandoned and in a bad way. The wood thing is going to be a rack displaying bombs. The base is also going to be abandoned and weed covered with a couple of people looking at the plane.

Thanks Zak - it was very easy I just dropped the base.
The figures are Airfix WW2 Luftwaffe Personnel who will be changes to modern people looking at the plane in a museum.

Nice looking concrete that, very realistic.
I also like the lopsided look of the airframe which matches the pictures in the book. I have it too.
I will be using your build as additional reference to my build of my HPH models Ilyushin Il-28 'Beagle' though in 1/48 next year.
Keep it up Msea, an interesting build.

you are doing a nice job, I am eager too see it done. When it is done, build another and you will be filled and overcome with the joy and satisafaction that can be gained from the wonderful hobby a modellng aircraft!!!

As long as you don't start singing that Rod Stuart song "We are sailing" - when I was at sea all my friends used to find it funny to sing that when I was due to go back.

A bit of colour on the figures. The engine will be enclosed by red wooden shutters - the back ones are sections of wood with a brass handle. The front ones are brass tube filled with a metal bolt ( for weight to bring the plane level ) and again a brass strip made into a handle.

Bits of an old paint brush used as grass. The plants are "gaugemaster" for railway trains and seem a little on the large side so will make some smaller ones from wine bottle tops and tea light metal.

Brilliant Stuff Msea,
It looks very realistic, the foliage is inspired. A sign of a good Christmas those wine foils................?
Getting some good tips with the diorama, keep it up.

I used the same plants for 1/32 and they seemed large for OO (4mm) to me.
Great stuff, your imagination is fantastic.

First coat of yellow on the plexiglass canopy. Will be blended in with the weathering -- I hope !!!

Bombs on the rack with foliage added.
After a coat of pledge a bit of weathering to blend them into the idea of an old abandoned plane in the museum.

Well back from holiday and illness - so now on with a little modelling.
The base still looks wrong so have started making some grass to fit between the paving blocks. Old tea light metal cut with some very small scissors I found in a craft shop, they are for people who make cards so are a great size for this job. The back metal grass works out at about 3 feet tall so have made smaller ones, next job prime and paint then add to base.

The transfers have been rubbed to make them look distressed. Now to let them dry and then a coat of Klear then on with the weathering.

Nice work sir, I like the idea of rubbing down the markings BEFORE sticking them on. It's the simple things isn't it? (That's the IDEA not the MODELLER I'm talking about!!). I would have put the markings on first THN rubbed them down and messed up the finish on the aircraft!

Like it a lot!! Saw one in Prague many years ago and the bombs not only had green moss around them but rust had replaced almost all the paint? Have you included birds' nests in the u/c wells yet?
