Next project - found this at Monk Bar Models in York - again a reduced price set.
This time Howard will NOT be able to complain about the standard of the face painting, as it will be made as a monument all painted bronze with just the colour on the fag as it is in Washington.

Hi Msea,
I had one of these, it should make up quite nicely, I remember it was quite well moulded and detailed.
As an aside, I think that historically the flag raising event was stage managed a few days after the actual event.
I may be wrong, but I think it was 'staged' as a propaganda event for the national good for circulation at home in the United States.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the completed item, in the hands of the master of many skills.
Cheers,
Kevin

Thank you Kevin - yes they are good models for the scale. Like a lot of the great photos of WW2 they might have happened as they are shown but several are stage managed later in time as you say.
Flag pole replaced with a brass rod and the first figure added.

The other 5 figure now being put together.
-
First 4 figures added to the flag pole.
-
All figures added and primed. Seen a couple of small bits to clean up and then on with the bronze paint.
-
First coat of bronze on the figures.
The 2 decals for the flag have been fastened together with a section of thin shim brass in between so it can be bent to shape.
-
Just the flag to add now
