Grumman Avenger 1:48
« on: January 30, 2015, 05:48:31 PM »
So, another aircraft started. This time a 1:48 Grumman Hellcat F6F-3 from Otaki. So far so good. The bits go together pretty well with only minor filling needed (with Squadron putty...yee ha!). Lets see how far I get with it. I donĀ“t have any decals for this aircraft by the way. If anyone out there can help me with some out of their stash I would be very gratefull.

Hi Kiteman,

Looking good, how do you build so quickly?
I've got one of these in my stash too so I'll be interested to see how it looks finished. Kit has great surface detail, but the cockpit needs a little work if I remember.
I'm still on with the Concorde, but will be doing some work later tonight. Perhaps I should dig my Hellcat out too...............................
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Have you noticed that the best modelers are the most untidy ones.

Hi Kiteman,

Just goes to show that I didn't read your title build properly. You have called it an 'Avenger' it is actually a F6-F 'Hellcat.
The TBM-3 'Avenger' is a totally bigger aircraft altogether being a 3 seat torpedo/bomber/reconnaissance aircraft.
However the build is good, still want to get my Hellcat out of the loft!

Hi Kiteman,
What do you need decal wise?
I think I have an actual Otaki Sheet for this kit 'somewhere', I'll have a grope around in the loft this weekend and see if I can fish it out.
If not I have some stars and bars, and probably some code letters I can help you out with.

I have found some stars, without bars, but otherwise I have nowt which fits this kit. I don`t want to put you to any trouble.

Hi Kiteman
No problem, if you can give me until weekend, I'll do what I can
Hellcats wore Blue/White stars and bars, or Blue/White stars with red outlines as far as I know.

Hi Kiteman,
It is a pleasure to help a fellow modeller out.
I am sure you can repay the gesture sometime in the future, isn't that what real friends do anyway.
